On September 3, 1690, Metropolitan Adrian of Kazan and Sviyazhsk was elected Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus'. He became the tenth Patriarch of the Russian Church and the last High Hierarch before the start of Petrine reforms and the establishment of the Synodal period.
