Unlike prizes that are awarded for a specific work, the Patriarchal Literary Prize is awarded for a cumulative contribution to Russian literature, as well as for strengthening in society Christian values, spiritual and moral norms preserved by the Orthodox Church.

His Holiness the Patriarch highly values ​​the literary work of authors with a Christian worldview and the influence of their works on the moral life of modern society, and considers it important and necessary to develop interaction between the Church and the writing community at the diocesan level.
