¹ Es nahte aber das Fest der ungesäuerten Brote, welches Passah genannt wird.

² Und die Hohenpriester und die Schriftgelehrten suchten, wie sie ihn umbrächten, denn sie fürchteten das Volk.

³ Aber Satan fuhr in Judas, der Iskariot zubenamt ist, welcher aus der Zahl der Zwölfe war.

⁴ Und er ging hin und besprach sich mit den Hohenpriestern und Hauptleuten, wie er ihn denselben überliefere.

⁵ Und sie waren erfreut und kamen überein, ihm Geld zu geben.

⁶ Und er versprach es und suchte eine Gelegenheit, um ihn denselben zu überliefern ohne Volksauflauf.

⁷ Es kam aber der Tag der ungesäuerten Brote, an welchem das Passah geschlachtet werden mußte.

⁸ Und er sandte Petrus und Johannes und sprach: Gehet hin und bereitet uns das Passah, auf daß wir es essen.

⁹ Sie aber sprachen zu ihm: Wo willst du, daß wir es bereiten?

¹⁰ Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Siehe, wenn ihr in die Stadt kommet, wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der einen Krug Wasser trägt; folget ihm in das Haus, wo er hineingeht.

¹¹ Und ihr sollt zu dem Herrn des Hauses sagen: Der Lehrer sagt dir: Wo ist das Gastzimmer, wo ich mit meinen Jüngern das Passah essen mag?

¹² Und jener wird euch einen großen, mit Polstern belegten Obersaal zeigen; daselbst bereitet.

¹³ Als sie aber hingingen, fanden sie es, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte; und sie bereiteten das Passah.

¹⁴ Und als die Stunde gekommen war, legte er sich zu Tische, und die zwölf Apostel mit ihm.

¹⁵ Und er sprach zu ihnen: Mit Sehnsucht habe ich mich gesehnt, dieses Passah mit euch zu essen, ehe ich leide.

¹⁶ Denn ich sage euch, daß ich hinfort nicht mehr davon essen werde, bis es erfüllt sein wird im Reiche Gottes.

¹⁷ Und er nahm einen Kelch, dankte und sprach: Nehmet diesen und teilet ihn unter euch.

¹⁸ Denn ich sage euch, daß ich nicht von dem Gewächs des Weinstocks trinken werde, bis das Reich Gottes komme.

¹⁹ Und er nahm Brot, dankte, brach und gab es ihnen und sprach: Dies ist mein Leib, der für euch gegeben wird; dieses tut zu meinem Gedächtnis!

²⁰ Desgleichen auch den Kelch nach dem Mahle und sagte: Dieser Kelch ist der neue Bund in meinem Blute, das für euch vergossen wird.

²¹ Doch siehe, die Hand dessen, der mich überliefert, ist mit mir über Tische.

²² Und der Sohn des Menschen geht zwar dahin, wie es beschlossen ist; wehe aber jenem Menschen, durch welchen er überliefert wird!

²³ Und sie fingen an, sich untereinander zu befragen, wer es wohl von ihnen sein möchte, der dies tun werde.

²⁴ Es entstand aber auch ein Streit unter ihnen, wer von ihnen für den Größten zu halten sei.

²⁵ Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Die Könige der Nationen herrschen über dieselben, und die Gewalt über sie üben, werden Wohltäter genannt.

²⁶ Ihr aber nicht also; sondern der Größte unter euch sei wie der Jüngste, und der Leiter wie der Dienende.

²⁷ Denn wer ist größer, der zu Tische Liegende oder der Dienende? Nicht der zu Tische Liegende? Ich aber bin in eurer Mitte wie der Dienende.

²⁸ Ihr aber seid es, die mit mir ausgeharrt haben in meinen Versuchungen;

²⁹ und ich verordne euch, gleichwie mein Vater mir verordnet hat, ein Reich,

³⁰ auf daß ihr esset und trinket an meinem Tische in meinem Reiche und auf Thronen sitzet, richtend die zwölf Stämme Israels.

³¹ Der Herr aber sprach: Simon, Simon! Siehe, der Satan hat euer begehrt, euch zu sichten wie den Weizen.

³² Ich aber habe für dich gebetet, auf daß dein Glaube nicht aufhöre; und du, bist du einst zurückgekehrt, so stärke deine Brüder.

³³ Er aber sprach zu ihm: Herr, mit dir bin ich bereit, auch ins Gefängnis und in den Tod zu gehen.

³⁴ Er aber sprach: Ich sage dir, Petrus, der Hahn wird heute nicht krähen, ehe du dreimal geleugnet hast, daß du mich kennest.

³⁵ Und er sprach zu ihnen: Als ich euch ohne Börse und Tasche und Sandalen sandte, mangelte euch wohl etwas? Sie aber sagten: Nichts.

³⁶ Er sprach nun zu ihnen: Aber jetzt, wer eine Börse hat, der nehme sie und gleicherweise eine Tasche, und wer keine hat, verkaufe sein Kleid und kaufe ein Schwert;

³⁷ denn ich sage euch, daß noch dieses, was geschrieben steht, an mir erfüllt werden muß: "Und er ist unter die Gesetzlosen gerechnet worden"; denn auch das, was mich betrifft, hat eine Vollendung.

³⁸ Sie aber sprachen: Herr, siehe, hier sind zwei Schwerter. Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Es ist genug.

³⁹ Und er ging hinaus und begab sich der Gewohnheit nach an den Ölberg; es folgten ihm aber auch die Jünger.

¹⁸ And the LORD hath given me knowledge of it, and I know it: then thou shewedst me their doings.

¹⁹ But I was like a lamb or an ox that is brought to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

²⁰ But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

²¹ Therefore thus saith the LORD of the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Prophesy not in the name of the LORD, that thou die not by our hand:

²² Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine:

²³ And there shall be no remnant of them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

¹ Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of thy judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

² Thou hast planted them, yea, they have taken root: they grow, yea, they bring forth fruit: thou art near in their mouth, and far from their reins.

³ But thou, O LORD, knowest me: thou hast seen me, and tried mine heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.

⁴ How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of every field wither, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein? the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our last end.

⁵ If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?

⁹ Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; come ye, assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour.

¹⁰ Many pastors have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

¹¹ They have made it desolate, and being desolate it mourneth unto me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man layeth it to heart.

¹⁴ Thus saith the LORD against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit; Behold, I will pluck them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

¹⁵ And it shall come to pass, after that I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage, and every man to his land.

¹⁰ Und Jehova sprach zu Mose: Gehe zum Volke und heilige sie heute und morgen, und daß sie ihre Kleider waschen;

¹¹ Und sie seien bereit auf den dritten Tag; denn am dritten Tage wird Jehova vor den Augen des ganzen Volkes auf den Berg Sinai herabsteigen.

¹² Und mache eine Grenze um das Volk ringsum und sprich: Hütet euch, auf den Berg zu steigen und sein Äußerstes anzurühren; alles, was den Berg anrührt, soll gewißlich getötet werden-

¹³ keine Hand soll ihn anrühren, denn es soll gewißlich gesteinigt oder erschossen werden; ob Vieh oder Mensch, es darf nicht leben. Wenn das Lärmhorn anhaltend ertönt, sollen sie gegen den Berg hinansteigen.

¹⁴ Und Mose stieg vom Berge zu dem Volke hinab; und er heiligte das Volk, und sie wuschen ihre Kleider.

¹⁵ Und er sprach zu dem Volke: Seid bereit auf den dritten Tag; nahet nicht zum Weibe.

¹⁶ Und es geschah am dritten Tage, als es Morgen war, da waren Donner und Blitze und eine schwere Wolke auf dem Berge und ein sehr starker Posaunenschall; und das ganze Volk zitterte, das im Lager war.

¹⁷ Und Mose führte das Volk aus dem Lager hinaus, Gott entgegen; und sie stellten sich auf am Fuße des Berges.

¹⁸ Und der ganze Berg Sinai rauchte, darum, daß Jehova auf ihn herabstieg im Feuer; und sein Rauch stieg auf, wie der Rauch eines Schmelzofens, und der ganze Berg bebte sehr.

¹⁹ Und der Posaunenschall wurde fort und fort stärker; Mose redete, und Gott antwortete ihm mit einer Stimme.

¹ Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

² Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

³ Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

⁴ Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

⁵ Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

⁶ Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

⁷ When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

⁸ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

⁹ When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

¹⁰ And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

¹¹ And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

¹² Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

¹³ That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

¹⁴ It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.

¹⁵ And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

¹⁶ Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

¹⁷ Have the gates of death been opened unto thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shadow of death?

¹⁸ Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

¹⁹ Where is the way where light dwelleth? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,

²⁰ That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, and that thou shouldest know the paths to the house thereof?

²¹ Knowest thou it, because thou wast then born? or because the number of thy days is great?

²² Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

²³ Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

¹ Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

² I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.

³ Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

⁴ Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

⁵ I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.

⁴ Der Herr, Jehova, hat mir eine Zunge der Belehrten gegeben, damit ich wisse, den Müden durch ein Wort aufzurichten. Er weckt jeden Morgen, er weckt mir das Ohr, damit ich höre gleich solchen, die belehrt werden.

⁵ Der Herr, Jehova, hat mir das Ohr geöffnet, und ich, ich bin nicht widerspenstig gewesen, bin nicht zurückgewichen.

⁶ Ich bot meinen Rücken den Schlagenden und meine Wangen den Raufenden, mein Angesicht verbarg ich nicht vor Schmach und Speichel.

⁷ Aber der Herr, Jehova, hilft mir; darum bin ich nicht zu Schanden geworden, darum machte ich mein Angesicht wie einen Kieselstein, und wußte, daß ich nicht würde beschämt werden.

⁸ Nahe ist der mich rechtfertigt: Wer will mit mir rechten? Laßt uns zusammen hintreten! Wer hat eine Rechtssache wider mich? Er trete her zu mir!

⁹ Siehe, der Herr, Jehova, wird mir helfen: Wer ist es, der mich für schuldig erklären könnte? Siehe, allesamt werden sie zerfallen wie ein Kleid, die Motte wird sie fressen.

¹⁰ Wer unter euch fürchtet Jehova? Wer hört auf die Stimme seines Knechtes? Wer in Finsternis wandelt und welchem kein Licht glänzt, vertraue auf den Namen Jehovas und stütze sich auf seinen Gott.

¹¹ Siehe, ihr alle, die ihr ein Feuer anzündet, mit Brandpfeilen euch rüstet: Hinweg in die Glut eures Feuers und in die Brandpfeile, die ihr angesteckt habt! Solches geschieht euch von meiner Hand; in Herzeleid sollt ihr daliegen.

²³ Denn ich habe von dem Herrn empfangen, was ich auch euch überliefert habe, daß der Herr Jesus in der Nacht, in welcher er überliefert wurde,

²⁴ Brot nahm, und als er gedankt hatte, es brach und sprach: Dies ist mein Leib, der für euch ist; dies tut zu meinem Gedächtnis.

²⁵ Desgleichen auch den Kelch nach dem Mahle und sprach: Dieser Kelch ist der neue Bund in meinem Blute; dies tut, so oft ihr trinket, zu meinem Gedächtnis.

²⁶ Denn so oft ihr dieses Brot esset und den Kelch trinket, verkündiget ihr den Tod des Herrn, bis er kommt.

²⁷ Wer also irgend das Brot ißt oder den Kelch des Herrn trinkt unwürdiglich, wird des Leibes und Blutes des Herrn schuldig sein.

²⁸ Ein jeder aber prüfe sich selbst, und also esse er von dem Brote und trinke von dem Kelche.

²⁹ Denn wer unwürdiglich ißt und trinkt, ißt und trinkt sich selbst Gericht, indem er den Leib nicht unterscheidet.

³⁰ Deshalb sind viele unter euch schwach und krank, und ein gut Teil sind entschlafen.

³¹ Aber wenn wir uns selbst beurteilten, so würden wir nicht gerichtet.

³² Wenn wir aber gerichtet werden, so werden wir vom Herrn gezüchtigt, auf daß wir nicht mit der Welt verurteilt werden.

² Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

³ Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

⁵ But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

⁷ There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

¹⁰ When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

¹² For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

¹³ Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

¹⁵ And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

¹⁶ And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

¹⁷ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

¹⁸ And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

¹⁹ And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

²⁰ Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

³ Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

⁴ He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.

⁵ After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

⁶ Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.

⁸ Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

¹¹ For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

¹² So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

¹⁶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.

¹⁷ If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

²¹ And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

²² And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

²³ And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

²⁴ The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

²⁵ Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

²⁶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

²⁷ And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

²⁸ For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

²⁹ But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

³⁰ And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

³¹ Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

³² But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

³⁶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

³⁸ Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

³⁹ And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

⁴³ And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

⁴⁴ And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

⁴⁵ And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,

⁴⁰ And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

⁴² He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

⁴³ And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

⁴⁴ And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

⁴⁵ Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

⁴⁶ Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

⁴⁷ And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

⁴⁸ Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

⁴⁹ And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

⁵¹ And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.

⁵² Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

⁵⁵ In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

⁵⁶ But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

⁵⁷ And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

⁵⁸ But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

⁶⁰ But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

⁶¹ And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

⁶² And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

⁶³ But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

⁶⁴ Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶⁵ Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

⁶⁶ What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁸ Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

⁶⁹ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

⁷³ And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

¹ When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

² And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

¹ Vor dem Feste des Passah aber, als Jesus wußte, daß seine Stunde gekommen war, daß er aus dieser Welt zu dem Vater hingehen sollte, da er die Seinigen, die in der Welt waren, geliebt hatte, liebte er sie bis ans Ende.

² Und während des Abendessens, als der Teufel schon dem Judas, Simons Sohn, dem Iskariot, es ins Herz gegeben hatte, daß er ihn überliefere,

³ steht Jesus , wissend, daß der Vater ihm alles in die Hände gegeben, und daß er von Gott ausgegangen war und zu Gott hingehe,

⁴ von dem Abendessen auf und legt die Oberkleider ab; und er nahm ein leinenes Tuch und umgürtete sich.

⁵ Dann gießt er Wasser in das Waschbecken und fing an, die Füße der Jünger zu waschen und mit dem leinenen Tuch abzutrocknen, mit welchem er umgürtet war.

⁶ Er kommt nun zu Simon Petrus, und der spricht zu ihm: Herr, du wäschest meine Füße?

⁷ Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Was ich tue, weißt du jetzt nicht, du wirst es aber hernach verstehen.

⁸ Petrus spricht zu ihm: Du sollst nimmermehr meine Füße waschen! Jesus antwortete ihm: Wenn ich dich nicht wasche, so hast du kein Teil mit mir.

⁹ Simon Petrus spricht zu ihm: Herr, nicht meine Füße allein, sondern auch die Hände und das Haupt.

¹⁰ Jesus spricht zu ihm: Wer gebadet ist, hat nicht nötig sich zu waschen, ausgenommen die Füße, sondern ist ganz rein; und ihr seid rein, aber nicht alle.

¹¹ Denn er kannte den, der ihn überlieferte; darum sagte er: Ihr seid nicht alle rein.

¹² Als er nun ihre Füße gewaschen und seine Oberkleider genommen hatte, legte er sich wiederum zu Tische und sprach zu ihnen: Wisset ihr, was ich euch getan habe?

¹³ Ihr heißet mich Lehrer und Herr, und ihr saget recht, denn ich bin es.

¹⁴ Wenn nun ich, der Herr und der Lehrer, eure Füße gewaschen habe, so seid auch ihr schuldig, einander die Füße zu waschen.

¹⁵ Denn ich habe euch ein Beispiel gegeben, auf daß, gleichwie ich euch getan habe, auch ihr tuet.

¹⁶ Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ein Knecht ist nicht größer als sein Herr, noch ein Gesandter größer, als der ihn gesandt hat.

¹⁷ Wenn ihr dies wisset, glückselig seid ihr, wenn ihr es tut.

¹ Und als sie Jerusalem, Bethphage und Bethanien nahen, gegen den Ölberg hin, sendet er zwei seiner Jünger und spricht zu ihnen:

² Gehet hin in das Dorf, das euch gegenüber liegt; und alsbald, wenn ihr in dasselbe kommet, werdet ihr ein Füllen angebunden finden, auf welchem kein Mensch je gesessen hat; bindet es los und führet es her.

³ Und wenn jemand zu euch sagt: Warum tut ihr dies? so saget: Der Herr bedarf seiner; und alsbald sendet er es hierher.

⁴ Sie aber gingen hin und fanden ein Füllen angebunden an der Tür draußen auf dem Wege; und sie binden es los.

⁵ Und etliche von denen, die daselbst standen, sprachen zu ihnen: Was tut ihr, daß ihr das Füllen losbindet?

⁶ Sie aber sprachen zu ihnen, wie Jesus gesagt hatte.

⁷ Und sie ließen sie. Und sie führten das Füllen zu Jesu und legten ihre Kleider darauf, und er setzte sich auf dasselbe.

⁸ Viele aber breiteten ihre Kleider aus auf den Weg; andere hieben Zweige von den Bäumen und streuten sie auf den Weg ;

⁹ und die vorangingen und nachfolgten, riefen: Hosanna! Gepriesen sei, der da kommt im Namen des Herrn!

¹⁰ Gepriesen sei das kommende Reich unseres Vaters David! Hosanna in der Höhe!

¹¹ Und er zog in Jerusalem ein und ging in den Tempel; und als er über alles umhergeblickt hatte, ging er, da es schon spät an der Zeit war, mit den Zwölfen hinaus nach Bethanien.

¹² Und des folgenden Tages, als sie von Bethanien weggegangen waren, hungerte ihn. Und als er von ferne einen Feigenbaum sah,

¹³ der Blätter hatte, ging er hin, ob er vielleicht etwas an ihm fände; und als er zu ihm kam, fand er nichts als nur Blätter, denn es war nicht die Zeit der Feigen.

¹⁴ Und er hob an und sprach zu ihm: Nimmermehr esse jemand Frucht von dir in Ewigkeit! Und seine Jünger hörten es.

¹⁵ Und sie kommen nach Jerusalem. Und als er in den Tempel eingetreten war, fing er an auszutreiben, die im Tempel verkauften und kauften; und die Tische der Wechsler und die Sitze der Taubenverkäufer stieß er um.

¹⁶ Und er erlaubte nicht, daß jemand ein Gefäß durch den Tempel trug.

¹⁷ Und er lehrte und sprach zu ihnen: Steht nicht geschrieben: "Mein Haus wird ein Bethaus genannt werden für alle Nationen"? "Ihr aber habt es zu einer Räuberhöhle gemacht".

¹⁸ Und die Hohenpriester und die Schriftgelehrten hörten es und suchten, wie sie ihn umbrächten; denn sie fürchteten ihn, weil die ganze Volksmenge sehr erstaunt war über seine Lehre.

¹⁹ Und wenn es Abend wurde, ging er zur Stadt hinaus.

²⁰ Und als sie frühmorgens vorbeigingen, sahen sie den Feigenbaum verdorrt von den Wurzeln an.

²¹ Und Petrus erinnerte sich und spricht zu ihm: Rabbi, siehe, der Feigenbaum, den du verfluchtest, ist verdorrt.

²² Und Jesus antwortet und spricht zu ihnen: Habet Glauben an Gott.

²³ Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer irgend zu diesem Berge sagen wird: Werde aufgehoben und ins Meer geworfen! und nicht zweifeln wird in seinem Herzen, sondern glauben, daß geschieht, was er sagt, dem wird werden was irgend er sagen wird .

²⁴ Darum sage ich euch: Alles, um was irgend ihr betet und bittet, glaubet, daß ihr es empfanget, und es wird euch werden.

²⁵ Und wenn ihr im Gebet dastehet, so vergebet, wenn ihr etwas wider jemand habt, auf daß auch euer Vater, der in den Himmeln ist, euch eure Übertretungen vergebe.

²⁶ Wenn ihr aber nicht vergebet, so wird euer Vater, der in den Himmeln ist, auch eure Übertretungen nicht vergeben.

²⁷ Und sie kommen wiederum nach Jerusalem. Und als er in dem Tempel umherwandelte, kommen die Hohenpriester und die Schriftgelehrten und

²⁸ die Ältesten zu ihm und sagen zu ihm: In welchem Recht tust du diese Dinge? Und wer hat dir dieses Recht gegeben, daß du diese Dinge tust?

²⁹ Jesus aber antwortete und sprach zu ihnen: Auch ich will euch ein Wort fragen, und antwortet mir, und ich werde euch sagen, in welchem Recht ich diese Dinge tue:

³⁰ Die Taufe Johannes', war sie vom Himmel oder von Menschen? Antwortet mir.

³¹ Und sie überlegten miteinander und sprachen: Wenn wir sagen: Vom Himmel, so wird er sagen: Warum habt ihr ihm denn nicht geglaubt?

³² Sagen wir aber: Von Menschen... sie fürchteten das Volk; denn alle hielten von Johannes, daß er wirklich ein Prophet war.

³³ Und sie antworten und sagen zu Jesu: Wir wissen es nicht. Und Jesus antwortet und spricht zu ihnen: So sage ich auch euch nicht, in welchem Recht ich diese Dinge tue.
