⁹ Y la sabrá el pueblo, todo él, Ephraim y los moradores de Samaria, que con soberbia y con altivez de corazón dicen:

¹⁰ Los ladrillos cayeron, mas edificaremos de cantería; cortaron los cabrahigos, mas cedros pondremos en su lugar.

¹¹ Empero Jehová ensalzará los enemigos de Rezín contra él, y juntará sus enemigos;

¹² De oriente los Siros, y los Filisteos de poniente; y con toda la boca se tragarán á Israel. Ni con todo eso ha cesado su furor, antes todavía su mano extendida.

¹³ Mas el pueblo no se convirtió al que lo hería, ni buscaron á Jehová de los ejércitos.

¹⁴ Y Jehová cortará de Israel cabeza y cola, ramo y caña en un mismo día.

¹⁵ El viejo y venerable de rostro es la cabeza: el profeta que enseña mentira, este es cola.

¹⁶ Porque los gobernadores de este pueblo son engañadores; y sus gobernados, perdidos.

¹⁷ Por tanto, el Señor no tomará contentamiento en sus mancebos, ni de sus huérfanos y viudas tendrá misericordia: porque todos son falsos y malignos, y toda boca habla despropósitos. Con todo esto no ha cesado su furor, antes todavía su mano extendida.

¹⁸ Porque la maldad se encendió como fuego, cardos y espinas devorará; y encenderáse en lo espeso de la breña, y serán alzados como humo.

¹⁹ Por la ira de Jehová de los ejércitos se oscureció la tierra, y será el pueblo como pábulo del fuego: el hombre no tendrá piedad de su hermano.

²⁰ Cada uno hurtará á la mano derecha, y tendrá hambre; y comerá á la izquierda, y no se hartará: cada cual comerá la carne de su brazo:

²¹ Manasés á Ephraim, y Ephraim á Manasés, y entrambos contra Judá. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.

¹ ¡AY de los que establecen leyes injustas, y determinando prescriben tiranía,

² Por apartar del juicio á los pobres, y por quitar el derecho á los afligidos de mi pueblo; por despojar las viudas, y robar los huérfanos!

³ ¿Y qué haréis en el día de la visitación? ¿y á quién os acogeréis que os ayude, cuando viniere de lejos el asolamiento? ¿y en dónde dejaréis vuestra gloria?

⁴ Sin mí se inclinarán entre los presos, y entre los muertos caerán. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.

¹ Y JEHOVA dijo á Noé: Entra tú y toda tu casa en el arca porque á ti he visto justo delante de mí en esta generación.

² De todo animal limpio te tomarás de siete en siete, macho y su hembra; mas de los animales que no son limpios, dos, macho y su hembra.

³ También de las aves de los cielos de siete en siete, macho y hembra; para guardar en vida la casta sobre la faz de toda la tierra.

⁴ Porque pasados aún siete días, yo haré llover sobre la tierra cuarenta días y cuarenta noches; y raeré toda sustancia que hice de sobre la faz de la tierra.

⁵ E hizo Noé conforme á todo lo que le mandó Jehová.

³² Ahora pues, hijos, oidme: Y bienaventurados los que guardaren mis caminos.

³³ Atended el consejo, y sed sabios, Y no lo menospreciéis.

³⁴ Bienaventurado el hombre que me oye, Velando á mis puertas cada día, Guardando los umbrales de mis entradas.

³⁵ Porque el que me hallare, hallará la vida, Y alcanzará el favor de Jehová.

³⁶ Mas el que peca contra mí, defrauda su alma: Todos los que me aborrecen, aman la muerte.

¹ LA sabiduría edificó su casa, Labró sus siete columnas;

² Mató sus víctimas, templó su vino, Y puso su mesa.

³ Envió sus criadas; Sobre lo más alto de la ciudad clamó:

⁴ Cualquiera simple, venga acá. A los faltos de cordura dijo:

⁵ Venid, comed mi pan, Y bebed del vino que yo he templado.

⁶ Dejad las simplezas, y vivid; Y andad por el camino de la inteligencia.

⁷ El que corrige al escarnecedor, afrenta se acarrea: El que reprende al impío, se atrae mancha.

⁸ No reprendas al escarnecedor, porque no te aborrezca: Corrige al sabio, y te amará.

⁹ Da al sabio, y será más sabio: Enseña al justo, y acrecerá su saber.

¹⁰ El temor de Jehová es el principio de la sabiduría; Y la ciencia de los santos es inteligencia.

¹¹ Porque por mí se aumentarán tus días, Y años de vida se te añadirán.

¹ The memory of a just man is praised, and the Lord’s blessing is upon his head. Blessed is one who has found wisdom; a mortal who knows understanding. To import her is better than treasures of gold and silver. She is more valuable than precious stones; nothing of value equals her worth. Justice proceeds from her mouth; she bears law and mercy on her tongue. Therefore, my children, listen to me, for I speak weighty things. And blessed is the one who keeps my ways. For my goings out are the goings out of life, and favour is prepared from the Lord. Therefore I exhort you, and utter my voice to the children of humankind. Because I, Wisdom, have prepared counsel, knowledge and understanding. I have called on them. Counsel and sureness are mine; prudence is mine, strength is mine. I love those who are my friends, while those who seek me will find grace. You innocent, then, understand cunning; you untaught, take it to heart. Listen to me, for I will speak weighty things, and I will open right things from my lips. Because my throat will meditate truth; lying lips are abominable before me. All the words of my mouth are with justice, there is nothing crooked in them nor twisted. They are all straight for those who understand, and right for those who find knowledge. For I teach you what is true, that your hope may be in the Lord and that you may be filled with spirit.

¹ A just man if he comes to his end will be at rest. A just man who dies will condemn the ungodly who are alive; for they will see the end of a just man and will not understand what they counselled concerning him. For the Lord will break the ungodly, render them voiceless and cast them headlong, and he will shake them from the foundations and they will be utterly worsted in sorrow, and their memory shall perish. They shall come with fear at the accounting of their sins, and their iniquities will convict them to their face. Then the just will stand with much boldness in the face of those who afflicted him and made his toils of no account. When they see this they will be troubled with great fear and will be amazed at the wonder of his salvation. For they will say as they repent and with anguish they will groan and say: Is this he whom we fools once made a laughing stock and a byword of reproach? We reckoned his life folly and his end dishonour. How has he been numbered among the children of God and his lot with the Saints? Therefore we have erred from the way of truth and the light of righteousness has not shone on us and the sun has not dawned on us. We have been filled with paths of lawlessness and destruction and journeyed through trackless paths, but have not known the way of the Lord.

¹ The mouth of a just man distils wisdom; the lips of men know graces. The mouth of the wise meditates wisdom; justice delivers them from death. When a just man dies hope is not lost; for a just son is born for life, and among his good things he will pluck the fruit of justice. There is light at all times for the just, and they will find grace and glory from the Lord. The tongue of the wise knows what is good, and wisdom will take its rest in their hearts. The Lord loves holy hearts; while all who are blameless in the way are acceptable to him. The wisdom of the Lord will enlighten the face of the understanding; for she anticipates those who desire her before they know it, and is easily contemplated by those who love her. One who rises for her at dawn will not toil, and one who keeps vigil because of her will be without care. For she goes about seeking those who are worthy of her, and shows herself favourably to those on her paths. Wickedness will never prevail against wisdom. Because of this I too became a lover of her beauty and became her friend, and I sought her out from my youth, and I sought to take her as my bride, because the Master of all things loved her, for she is an initiate of the knowledge of God and one who chooses his works. Her toils are virtues; she herself teaches sobriety and prudence; justice and courage, than which things nothing is more useful in human life. If anyone longs for much experience, she knows how to compare things of old and those that are to come. She knows the twists of words and the explanations of riddles. She foresees signs and wonders and the outcomes of seasons and times. And to all she is a good counsellor. Because immortality is in her, and fame in the fellowship of her words. Therefore I appealed to the Lord and besought him and said from my whole heart, ‘God of my Fathers and Lord of mercy, who made all things by your Word, and established humanity by your Wisdom to be sovereign over the creatures that had come into being by you, and to order the world in holiness and justice, give me Wisdom who sits by your throne, and do not reject me from among your children, for I am your servant and the son of your maid servant. Send her out from your holy dwelling and from the throne of your glory, that she may be present with me and teach me what is well pleasing before you. And she will guide me with knowledge and guard me with her glory. For all the thoughts of mortals are wretched and their ideas are unstable.’

¹ ENTONCES entrando en el barco, pasó á la otra parte, y vino á su ciudad.

² Y he aquí le trajeron un paralítico, echado en una cama: y viendo Jesús la fe de ellos, dijo al paralítico: Confía, hijo; tus pecados te son perdonados.

³ Y he aquí, algunos de los escribas decían dentro de sí: Este blasfema.

⁴ Y viendo Jesús sus pensamientos, dijo: ¿Por qué pensáis mal en vuestros corazones?

⁵ Porque, ¿qué es más fácil, decir: Los pecados te son perdonados; ó decir: Levántate, y anda?

⁶ Pues para que sepáis que el Hijo del hombre tiene potestad en la tierra de perdonar pecados, (dice entonces al paralítico): Levántate, toma tu cama, y vete á tu casa.

⁷ Entonces él se levantó y se fué á su casa.

⁸ Y las gentes, viéndolo, se maravillaron, y glorificaron á Dios, que había dado tal potestad á los hombres.

⁹ Y pasando Jesús de allí, vió á un hombre que estaba sentado al banco de los públicos tributos, el cual se llamaba Mateo; y dícele: Sígueme. Y se levantó, y le siguió.

¹⁰ Y aconteció que estando él sentado á la mesa en casa, he aquí que muchos publicanos y pecadores, que habían venido, se sentaron juntamente á la mesa con Jesús y sus discípulos.

¹¹ Y viendo esto los Fariseos, dijeron á sus discípulos: ¿Por qué come vuestro Maestro con los publicanos y pecadores?

¹² Y oyéndolo Jesús, le dijo: Los que están sanos no tienen necesidad de médico, sino los enfermos.

¹³ Andad pues, y aprended qué cosa es: Misericordia quiero, y no sacrificio: porque no he venido á llamar justos, sino pecadores á arrepentimiento.

¹⁴ Entonces los discípulos de Juan vienen á él, diciendo: ¿Por qué nosotros y los Fariseos ayunamos muchas veces, y tus discípulos no ayunan?

¹⁵ Y Jesús les dijo: ¿Pueden los que son de bodas tener luto entre tanto que el esposo está con ellos? mas vendrán días cuando el esposo será quitado de ellos, y entonces ayunarán.

¹⁶ Y nadie echa remiendo de paño recio en vestido viejo; porque el tal remiendo tira del vestido, y se hace peor la rotura.

¹⁷ Ni echan vino nuevo en cueros viejos: de otra manera los cueros se rompen, y el vino se derrama, y se pierden los cueros; mas echan el vino nuevo en cueros nuevos, y lo uno y lo otro se conserva juntamente.

¹⁸ Hablando él estas cosas á ellos, he aquí vino un principal, y le adoraba, diciendo: Mi hija es muerta poco ha: mas ven y pon tu mano sobre ella, y vivirá.

¹⁹ Y se levantó Jesús, y le siguió, y sus discípulos.

²⁰ Y he aquí una mujer enferma de flujo de sangre doce años había, llegándose por detrás, tocó la franja de su vestido:

²¹ Porque decía entre sí: Si tocare solamente su vestido, seré salva.

²² Mas Jesús volviéndose, y mirándola, dijo: Confía, hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Y la mujer fué salva desde aquella hora.

²³ Y llegado Jesús á casa del principal, viendo los tañedores de flautas, y la gente que hacía bullicio,

²⁴ Díceles: Apartaos, que la muchacha no es muerta, mas duerme. Y se burlaban de él.

²⁵ Y como la gente fué echada fuera, entró, y tomóla de la mano, y se levantó la muchacha.

²⁶ Y salió esta fama por toda aquella tierra.

²⁷ Y pasando Jesús de allí, le siguieron dos ciegos, dando voces y diciendo: Ten misericordia de nosotros, Hijo de David.

²⁸ Y llegado á la casa, vinieron á él los ciegos; y Jesús les dice: ¿Creéis que puedo hacer esto? Ellos dicen: Sí, Señor.

²⁹ Entonces tocó los ojos de ellos, diciendo: Conforme á vuestra fe os sea hecho.

³⁰ Y los ojos de ellos fueron abiertos. Y Jesús les encargó rigurosamente, diciendo: Mirad que nadie lo sepa.

³¹ Mas ellos salidos, divulgaron su fama por toda aquella tierra.

³² Y saliendo ellos, he aquí, le trajeron un hombre mudo, endemoniado.

³³ Y echado fuera el demonio, el mudo habló; y las gentes se maravillaron, diciendo: Nunca ha sido vista cosa semejante en Israel.

³⁴ Mas los Fariseos decían: Por el príncipe de los demonios echa fuera los demonios.

³⁵ Y rodeaba Jesús por todas las ciudades y aldeas, enseñando en las sinagogas de ellos, y predicando el evangelio del reino, y sanando toda enfermedad y todo achaque en el pueblo.

³⁶ Y viendo las gentes, tuvo compasión de ellas; porque estaban derramadas y esparcidas como ovejas que no tienen pastor.

³⁷ Entonces dice á sus discípulos: A la verdad la mies es mucha, mas los obreros pocos.

³⁸ Rogad, pues, al Señor de la mies, que envíe obreros á su mies.
