¹¹ ¡Ay de ellos! porque han seguido el camino de Caín, y se lanzaron en el error de Balaam por recompensa, y perecieron en la contradicción de Coré.

¹² Estos son manchas en vuestros convites, que banquetean juntamente, apacentándose á sí mismos sin temor alguno: nubes sin agua, las cuales son llevadas de acá para allá de los vientos: árboles marchitos como en otoño, sin fruto, dos veces muertos y desarraigados;

¹³ Fieras ondas de la mar, que espuman sus mismas abominaciones; estrellas erráticas, á las cuales es reservada eternalmente la oscuridad de las tinieblas.

¹⁴ De los cuales también profetizó Enoc, séptimo desde Adam, diciendo: He aquí, el Señor es venido con sus santos millares,

¹⁵ A hacer juicio contra todos, y á convencer á todos los impíos de entre ellos tocante á todas sus obras de impiedad que han hecho impíamente, y á todas las cosas duras que los pecadores impíos han hablado contra él.

¹⁶ Estos son murmuradores, querellosos, andando según sus deseos; y su boca habla cosas soberbias, teniendo en admiración las personas por causa del provecho.

¹⁷ Mas vosotros, amados, tened memoria de las palabras que antes han sido dichas por los apóstoles de nuestro Señor Jesucristo;

¹⁸ Como os decían: Que en el postrer tiempo habría burladores, que andarían según sus malvados deseos.

¹⁹ Estos son los que hacen divisiones, sensuales, no teniendo el Espíritu.

²⁰ Mas vosotros, oh amados, edificándoos sobre vuestra santísima fe, orando por el Espíritu Santo.

²¹ Conservaos en el amor de Dios, esperando la misericordia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, para vida eterna.

²² Y recibid á los unos en piedad, discerniendo:

²³ Mas haced salvos á los otros por temor, arrebatándolos del fuego; aborreciendo aun la ropa que es contaminada de la carne.

²⁴ A aquel, pues, que es poderoso para guardaros sin caída, y presentaros delante de su gloria irreprensibles, con grande alegría,

²⁵ Al Dios solo sabio, nuestro Salvador, sea gloria y magnificencia, imperio y potencia, ahora y en todos los siglos. Amén.

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cæsar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

³ And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.

⁴ Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.

⁵ And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

⁶ When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilæan.

⁷ And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

⁸ And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

⁹ Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

¹⁰ And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

¹¹ And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

¹² And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

¹³ And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,

¹⁴ Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:

¹⁵ No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.

¹⁶ I will therefore chastise him, and release him.

¹⁷ (For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)

¹⁸ And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas:

¹⁹ (Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)

²⁰ Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.

²¹ But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

²² And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.

²³ And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.

²⁴ And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.

²⁵ And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

²⁶ And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.

²⁷ And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.

²⁸ But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.

²⁹ For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.

³⁰ Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.

³¹ For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

³² And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.

³³ And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.

³⁴ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

⁴⁴ And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

⁴⁵ And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

⁴⁶ And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

⁴⁷ Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.

⁴⁸ And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.

⁴⁹ And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.

⁵⁰ And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:

⁵¹ (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathæa, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

⁵² This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

⁵³ And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

⁵⁴ And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.

⁵⁵ And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.

⁵⁶ And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

¹ ESTABA entonces enfermo uno llamado Lázaro, de Bethania, la aldea de María y de Marta su hermana.

² (Y María, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo, era la que ungió al Señor con ungüento, y limpió sus pies con sus cabellos)

³ Enviaron, pues, sus hermanas á él, diciendo: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo.

⁴ Y oyéndolo Jesús, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, mas por gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.

⁵ Y amaba Jesús á Marta, y á su hermana, y á Lázaro.

⁶ Como oyó pues que estaba enfermo, quedóse aún dos días en aquel lugar donde estaba.

⁷ Luego, después de esto, dijo á los discípulos: Vamos á Judea otra vez.

⁸ Dícenle los discípulos: Rabbí, ahora procuraban los Judíos apedrearte, ¿y otra vez vas allá?

⁹ Respondió Jesús: ¿No tiene el día doce horas? El que anduviere de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.

¹⁰ Mas el que anduviere de noche, tropieza, porque no hay luz en él.

¹¹ Dicho esto, díceles después: Lázaro nuestro amigo duerme; mas voy á despertarle del sueño.

¹² Dijeron entonces sus discípulos: Señor, si duerme, salvo estará.

¹³ Mas esto decía Jesús de la muerte de él: y ellos pensaron que hablaba del reposar del sueño.

¹⁴ Entonces, pues, Jesús les dijo claramente: Lázaro es muerto;

¹⁵ Y huélgome por vosotros, que yo no haya estado allí, para que creáis: mas vamos á él.

¹⁶ Dijo entonces Tomás, el que se dice el Dídimo, á sus condiscípulos: Vamos también nosotros, para que muramos con él.

¹⁷ Vino pues Jesús, y halló que había ya cuatro días que estaba en el sepulcro.

¹⁸ Y Bethania estaba cerca de Jerusalem, como quince estadios;

¹⁹ Y muchos de los Judíos habían venido á Marta y á María, á consolarlas de su hermano.

²⁰ Entonces Marta, como oyó que Jesús venía, salió á encontrarle; mas María se estuvo en casa.

²¹ Y Marta dijo á Jesús: Señor, si hubieses estado aquí, mi hermano no fuera muerto;

²² Mas también sé ahora, que todo lo que pidieres de Dios, te dará Dios.

²³ Dícele Jesús: Resucitará tu hermano.

²⁴ Marta le dice: Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el día postrero.

²⁵ Dícele Jesús: Yo soy la resurrección y la vida: el que cree en mí, aunque esté muerto, vivirá.

²⁶ Y todo aquel que vive y cree en mí, no morirá eternamente. ¿Crees esto?

²⁷ Dícele: Sí Señor; yo he creído que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que has venido al mundo.

²⁸ Y esto dicho, fuése, y llamó en secreto á María su hermana, diciendo: El Maestro está aquí y te llama.

²⁹ Ella, como lo oyó, levántase prestamente y viene á él.

³⁰ (Que aun no había llegado Jesús á la aldea, mas estaba en aquel lugar donde Marta le había encontrado.)

³¹ Entonces los Judíos que estaban en casa con ella, y la consolaban, como vieron que María se había levantado prestamente, y había salido, siguiéronla, diciendo: Va al sepulcro á llorar allí.

³² Mas María, como vino donde estaba Jesús, viéndole, derribóse á sus pies, diciéndole: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, no fuera muerto mi hermano.

³³ Jesús entonces, como la vió llorando, y á los Judíos que habían venido juntamente con ella llorando, se conmovió en espíritu, y turbóse,

³⁴ Y dijo: ¿Dónde le pusisteis? Dicenle: Señor, ven, y ve.

³⁵ Y lloró Jesús.

³⁶ Dijeron entonces los Judíos: Mirad cómo le amaba.

³⁷ Y algunos de ellos dijeron: ¿No podía éste que abrió los ojos al ciego, hacer que éste no muriera?

³⁸ Y Jesús, conmoviéndose otra vez en sí mismo, vino al sepulcro. Era una cueva, la cual tenía una piedra encima.

³⁹ Dice Jesús: Quitad la piedra. Marta, la hermana del que se había muerto, le dice: Señor, hiede ya, que es de cuatro días.

⁴⁰ Jesús le dice: ¿No te he dicho que, si creyeres, verás la gloria de Dios?

⁴¹ Entonces quitaron la piedra de donde el muerto había sido puesto. Y Jesús, alzando los ojos arriba, dijo: Padre, gracias te doy que me has oído.

⁴² Que yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa de la compañía que está alrededor, lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.

⁴³ Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, clamó á gran voz: Lázaro, ven fuera.

⁴⁴ Y el que había estado muerto, salió, atadas las manos y los pies con vendas; y su rostro estaba envuelto en un sudario. Díceles Jesús: Desatadle, y dejadle ir.

⁴⁵ Entonces muchos de los Judíos que habían venido á María, y habían visto lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él.

⁴⁶ Mas algunos de ellos fueron á los Fariseos, y dijéronles lo que Jesús había hecho.

⁴⁷ Entonces los pontífices y los Fariseos juntaron concilio, y decían: ¿Qué hacemos? porque este hombre hace muchas señales.

⁴⁸ Si le dejamos así, todos creerán en él: y vendrán los Romanos, y quitarán nuestro lugar y la nación.

⁴⁹ Y Caifás, uno de ellos, sumo pontífice de aquel año, les dijo: Vosotros no sabéis nada;

⁵⁰ Ni pensáis que nos conviene que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y no que toda la nación se pierda.

⁵¹ Mas esto no lo dijo de sí mismo; sino que, como era el sumo pontífice de aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación:

⁵² Y no solamente por aquella nación, mas también para que juntase en uno los hijos de Dios que estaban derramados.

⁵³ Así que, desde aquel día consultaban juntos de matarle.

⁵⁴ Por tanto, Jesús ya no andaba manifiestamente entre los Judíos; mas fuése de allí á la tierra que está junto al desierto, á una ciudad que se llama Ephraim: y estábase allí con sus discípulos

⁵⁵ Y la Pascua de los Judíos estaba cerca: y muchos subieron de aquella tierra á Jerusalem antes de la Pascua, para purificarse;

⁵⁶ Y buscaban á Jesús, y hablaban los unos con los otros estando en el templo. ¿Qué os parece, que no vendrá á la fiesta?

⁵⁷ Y los pontífices y los Fariseos habían dado mandamiento, que si alguno supiese dónde estuviera, lo manifestase, para que le prendiesen.
