¹⁵ But the righteous live for evermore; their reward also is with the Lord, and the care of them is with the most High.

¹⁶ Therefore shall they receive a glorious kingdom, and a beautiful crown from the Lord’s hand: for with his right hand shall he cover them, and with his arm shall he protect them.

¹⁷ He shall take to him his jealousy for complete armour, and make the creature his weapon for the revenge of his enemies.

¹⁸ He shall put on righteousness as a breastplate, and true judgment instead of an helmet.

¹⁹ He shall take holiness for an invincible shield.

²⁰ His severe wrath shall he sharpen for a sword, and the world shall fight with him against the unwise.

²¹ Then shall the right aiming thunderbolts go abroad; and from the clouds, as from a well drawn bow, shall they fly to the mark.

²² And hailstones full of wrath shall be cast as out of a stone bow, and the water of the sea shall rage against them, and the floods shall cruelly drown them.

²³ Yea, a mighty wind shall stand up against them, and like a storm shall blow them away: thus iniquity shall lay waste the whole earth, and ill dealing shall overthrow the thrones of the mighty.

¹ Hear therefore, O ye kings, and understand; learn, ye that be judges of the ends of the earth.

² Give ear, ye that rule the people, and glory in the multitude of nations.

³ For power is given you of the Lord, and sovereignty from the Highest, who shall try your works, and search out your counsels.

¹ But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them.

² In the sight of the unwise they seemed to die: and their departure is taken for misery,

³ And their going from us to be utter destruction: but they are in peace.

⁴ For though they be punished in the sight of men, yet is their hope full of immortality.

⁵ And having been a little chastised, they shall be greatly rewarded: for God proved them, and found them worthy for himself.

⁶ As gold in the furnace hath he tried them, and received them as a burnt offering.

⁷ And in the time of their visitation they shall shine, and run to and fro like sparks among the stubble.

⁸ They shall judge the nations, and have dominion over the people, and their Lord shall reign for ever.

⁹ They that put their trust in him shall understand the truth: and such as be faithful in love shall abide with him: for grace and mercy is to his saints, and he hath care for his elect.

⁷ But though the righteous be prevented with death, yet shall he be in rest.

⁸ For honourable age is not that which standeth in length of time, nor that is measured by number of years.

⁹ But wisdom is the gray hair unto men, and an unspotted life is old age.

¹⁰ He pleased God, and was beloved of him: so that living among sinners he was translated.

¹¹ Yea speedily was he taken away, lest that wickedness should alter his understanding, or deceit beguile his soul.

¹² For the bewitching of naughtiness doth obscure things that are honest; and the wandering of concupiscence doth undermine the simple mind.

¹³ He, being made perfect in a short time, fulfilled a long time:

¹⁴ For his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked.

¹⁵ This the people saw, and understood it not, neither laid they up this in their minds, That his grace and mercy is with his saints, and that he hath respect unto his chosen.

²⁷ Todas las cosas me son entregadas de mi Padre: y nadie conoció al Hijo, sino el Padre; ni al Padre conoció alguno, sino el Hijo, y aquel á quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar.

²⁸ Venid á mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, que yo os haré descansar.

²⁹ Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas.

³⁰ Porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera mi carga.

¹¹ Del cual tenemos mucho que decir, y dificultoso de declarar, por cuanto sois flacos para oir.

¹² Porque debiendo ser ya maestros á causa del tiempo, tenéis necesidad de volver á ser enseñados cuáles sean los primeros rudimentos de las palabras de Dios; y habéis llegado á ser tales que tengáis necesidad de leche, y no de manjar sólido.

¹³ Que cualquiera que participa de la leche, es inhábil para la palabra de la justicia, porque es niño;

¹⁴ Mas la vianda firme es para los perfectos, para los que por la costumbre tienen los sentidos ejercitados en el discernimiento del bien y del mal.

¹ POR tanto, dejando la palabra del comienzo en la doctrina de Cristo, vamos adelante á la perfección; no echando otra vez el fundamento; no arrepentimiento de obras muertas, y de la fe en Dios,

² De la doctrina de bautismos, y de la imposición de manos, y de la resurrección de los muertos, y del juicio eterno.

³ Y esto haremos á la verdad, si Dios lo permitiere.

⁴ Porque es imposible que los que una vez fueron iluminados y gustaron el don celestial, y fueron hechos partícipes del Espíritu Santo.

⁵ Y asimismo gustaron la buena palabra de Dios, y las virtudes del siglo venidero,

⁶ Y recayeron, sean otra vez renovados para arrepentimiento, crucificando de nuevo para sí mismos al Hijo de Dios, y exponiéndole á vituperio.

⁷ Porque la tierra que embebe el agua que muchas veces vino sobre ella, y produce hierba provechosa á aquellos de los cuales es labrada, recibe bendición de Dios:

⁸ Mas la que produce espinas y abrojos, es reprobada, y cercana de maldición; cuyo fin será el ser abrasada.

¹⁷ Obedeced á vuestros pastores, y sujetaos á ellos; porque ellos velan por vuestras almas, como aquellos que han de dar cuenta; para que lo hagan con alegría, y no gimiendo; porque esto no os es útil.

¹⁸ Orad por nosotros: porque confiamos que tenemos buena conciencia, deseando conversar bien en todo.

¹⁹ Y más os ruego que lo hagáis así, para que yo os sea más presto restituído.

²⁰ Y el Dios de paz que sacó de los muertos á nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el gran pastor de las ovejas, por la sangre del testamento eterno,

²¹ Os haga aptos en toda obra buena para que hagáis su voluntad, haciendo él en vosotros lo que es agradable delante de él por Jesucristo: al cual sea gloria por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

⁵ And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,

⁶ As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

⁷ And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

¹⁰ Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom:

¹¹ And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

²⁰ And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

²¹ Then let them which are in Judæa flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

²² For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

²³ But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people.

²⁴ And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

¹⁷ Y descendió con ellos, y se paró en un lugar llano, y la compañía de sus discípulos, y una grande multitud de pueblo de toda Judea y de Jerusalem, y de la costa de Tiro y de Sidón, que habían venido á oirle, y para ser sanados de sus enfermedades;

¹⁸ Y los que habían sido atormentados de espíritus inmundos: y estaban curados.

¹⁹ Y toda la gente procuraba tocarle; porque salía de él virtud, y sanaba á todos.

²⁰ Y alzando él los ojos á sus discípulos, decía: Bienaventurados vosotros los pobres; porque vuestro es el reino de Dios.

²¹ Bienaventurados los que ahora tenéis hambre; porque seréis saciados. Bienaventurados los que ahora lloráis, porque reiréis.

²² Bienaventurados seréis, cuando los hombres os aborrecieren, y cuando os apartaren de sí, y os denostaren, y desecharen vuestro nombre como malo, por el Hijo del hombre.

²³ Gozaos en aquel día, y alegraos; porque he aquí vuestro galardón es grande en los cielos; porque así hacían sus padres á los profetas.

¹ PRINCIPIO del evangelio de Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios.

² Como está escrito en Isaías el profeta: He aquí yo envío á mi mensajero delante de tu faz, Que apareje tu camino delante de ti.

³ Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejad el camino del Señor; Enderezad sus veredas.

⁴ Bautizaba Juan en el desierto, y predicaba el bautismo del arrepentimiento para remisión de pecados.

⁵ Y salía á él toda la provincia de Judea, y los de Jerusalem; y eran todos, bautizados por él en el río de Jordán, confesando sus pecados.

⁶ Y Juan andaba vestido de pelos de camello, y con un cinto de cuero alrededor de sus lomos; y comía langostas y miel silvestre.

⁷ Y predicaba, diciendo: Viene tras mí el que es más poderoso que yo, al cual no soy digno de desatar encorvado la correa de sus zapatos.

⁸ Yo á la verdad os he bautizado con agua; mas él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo.

⁹ Y aconteció en aquellos días, que Jesús vino de Nazaret de Galilea, y fué bautizado por Juan en el Jordán.

¹⁰ Y luego, subiendo del agua, vió abrirse los cielos, y al Espíritu como paloma, que descendía sobre él.

¹¹ Y hubo una voz de los cielos que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado; en ti tomo contentamiento.

¹² Y luego el Espíritu le impele al desierto.

¹³ Y estuvo allí en el desierto cuarenta días, y era tentado de Satanás; y estaba con las fieras; y los ángeles le servían.

¹⁴ Mas después que Juan fué encarcelado, Jesús vino á Galilea predicando el evangelio del reino de Dios,

¹⁵ Y diciendo: El tiempo es cumplido, y el reino de Dios está cerca: arrepentíos, y creed al evangelio.

¹⁶ Y pasando junto á la mar de Galilea, vió á Simón, y á Andrés su hermano, que echaban la red en la mar; porque eran pescadores.

¹⁷ Y les dijo Jesús: Venid en pos de mí, y haré que seáis pescadores de hombres.

¹⁸ Y luego, dejadas sus redes, le siguieron.

¹⁹ Y pasando de allí un poco más adelante, vió á Jacobo, hijo de Zebedeo, y á Juan su hermano, también ellos en el navío, que aderezaban las redes.

²⁰ Y luego los llamó: y dejando á su padre Zebedeo en el barco con los jornaleros, fueron en pos de él.

²¹ Y entraron en Capernaum; y luego los sábados, entrando en la sinagoga, enseñaba.

²² Y se admiraban de su doctrina; porque les enseñaba como quien tiene potestad, y no como los escribas.

²³ Y había en la sinagoga de ellos un hombre con espíritu inmundo, el cual dió voces,

²⁴ Diciendo: ¡Ah! ¿qué tienes con nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido á destruirnos? Sé quién eres, el Santo de Dios.

²⁵ Y Jesús le riñó, diciendo: Enmudece, y sal de él.

²⁶ Y el espíritu inmundo, haciéndole pedazos, y clamando á gran voz, salió de él.

²⁷ Y todos se maravillaron, de tal manera que inquirían entre sí, diciendo: ¿Qué es esto? ¿Qué nueva doctrina es ésta, que con potestad aun á los espíritus inmundos manda, y le obedecen?

²⁸ Y vino luego su fama por toda la provincia alrededor de Galilea.

²⁹ Y luego saliendo de la sinagoga, vinieron á casa de Simón y de Andrés, con Jacobo y Juan.

³⁰ Y la suegra de Simón estaba acostada con calentura; y le hablaron luego de ella.

³¹ Entonces llegando él, la tomó de su mano y la levantó; y luego la dejó la calentura, y les servía.

³² Y cuando fué la tarde, luego que el sol se puso, traían á él todos los que tenían mal, y endemoniados;

³³ Y toda la ciudad se juntó á la puerta.

³⁴ Y sanó á muchos que estaban enfermos de diversas enfermedades, y echó fuera muchos demonios; y no dejaba decir á los demonios que le conocían.

³⁵ Y levantándose muy de mañana, aun muy de noche, salió y se fué á un lugar desierto, y allí oraba.

³⁶ Y le siguió Simón, y los que estaban con él;

³⁷ Y hallándole, le dicen: Todos te buscan.

³⁸ Y les dice: Vamos á los lugares vecinos, para que predique también allí; porque para esto he venido.

³⁹ Y predicaba en las sinagogas de ellos en toda Galilea, y echaba fuera los demonios.

⁴⁰ Y un leproso vino á él, rogándole; é hincada la rodilla, le dice: Si quieres, puedes limpiarme.

⁴¹ Y Jesús, teniendo misericordia de él, extendió su mano, y le tocó, y le dice: Quiero, sé limpio.

⁴² Y así que hubo él hablado, la lepra se fué luego de aquél, y fué limpio.

⁴³ Entonces le apercibió, y despidióle luego,

⁴⁴ Y le dice: Mira, no digas á nadie nada; sino ve, muéstrate al sacerdote, y ofrece por tu limpieza lo que Moisés mandó, para testimonio á ellos.

⁴⁵ Mas él salido, comenzó á publicarlo mucho, y á divulgar el hecho, de manera que ya Jesús no podía entrar manifiestamente en la ciudad, sino que estaba fuera en los lugares desiertos; y venían á él de todas partes.
