Romanian Village Day: A call to rediscover a way of living and understanding lifetranslated

Romanian Village Day was instituted by the Parliament in 2020, one year after the Romanian Orthodox Church dedicated the 2019 Tribute Year to this theme. It is marked on the last Sunday of September.

"We must not only look nostalgically and mioritically at the village of the past, but also see the drama of the Romanian village today", the Patriarch of Romania repeatedly drew attention.

Thus, the Day of the Romanian Village becomes a call not only to preserve a museum reality, but also to rediscover it as a simple way of life, close to nature and in the order of the ancestors.

Unfortunately, the depopulation of Romanian villages is difficult to repair, but perhaps not impossible: "The spiritual and material crisis affecting Romanian villages nowadays requires more involvement from all of us", said the Patriarch of Romania at the 2019 National Theology Symposium organized by the Romanian Patriarchate.

"Villages need diligent mayors, vocation teachers, spiritual and merciful priests, but also healthy and happy villagers to cultivate the land."
