Firefighters' Day in Romania is celebrated annually on September 13, with those who fight flames having Saint Ioachim of Partuș as their spiritual intercessor, commemorated on September 15.

This anniversary recalls the Battle on Mount Hymnus, which took place on September 13, 1848, during the Romanian Revolution. Then, the military firefighters from Bucharest, led by Captain Pavel Zăgănescu, joined the Romanian rebels who faced Ottoman troops.

The day before, Lady Lieutenant ordered Captain Radu Golescu to mobilize Regiment 2 Infantry at Mount Hymnus to meet the approaching Ottoman column, which numbered approximately 6,000 soldiers.

Facing an imminent confrontation, the Fire Company from Bucharest, commanded by Captain Pavel Zăgănescu, wished to join the Romanian military forces.

The Battle on Mount Hymnus Although the Ottoman forces were not numerically superior, firefighters and other Romanian rebels resisted fiercely.
