The Day of the Apuseni Mountains is celebrated for the first time on September 21, after the initiative was adopted by the Parliament at the end of last year and promulgated by law in January 2026. The anniversary day brings into focus the cultural and historical heritage of the Apuseni, the traditions of the Moti communities and the personalities who have marked the identity of this region.

The Apuseni Mountains are part of the Western Carpathians. The highest point is Vârful Curcubăta Mare, at 1,849 meters, followed by Vlădeasa and Muntele Mare.

The relief is characterized by a great diversity of gorges, gorges, caves and ravines, and the settlements scattered on the peaks and valleys of the Apuseni contributed to the preservation of a way of life and some traditions specific to mountain communities.

September 21 and the memory of Avram Iancu The Apuseni Mountains Day was established by Law 13/2026. The chosen date recalls one of the important moments of the Revolution of 1848 in Transylvania. On September 21, 1848, Avram Iancu arrived in Blaj, at the head of approximately 6,000 moti, to participate in the third National Assembly on Freedom Square.
