The International Day of Sign Languages Promotes Inclusion for People with Hearing Impairmentstranslated

The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, at the proposal of the World Federation of Sign Languages, and was first celebrated in 2018. September 23 commemorates the founding of the federation in 1951.

This year marks 75 years since the establishment of the World Federation of Sign Languages and two decades since the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. According to the United Nations, over 70 million people who are deaf worldwide use more than 300 sign languages.
