Living memory of ancient wallstranslated

September 21st is the Nativity of Our Blessed Lady Theotokos. In the Ulyanovsk region, in honor of this holiday in the village of Poldomasovo, a church was built back in 1700. In ungodly times it was closed, and the building fell into disrepair. However, the memory of the shrine is alive, and work has recently begun on its restoration. The rector of the church, Priest Nikolai Suslov, talks about the 326-year history of the shrine and its miracles.

— Father Nikolai, please tell us about the history of the construction of the church.

- In 1648, the boyar’s son Matvey Poldomasov founded a village named after his last name - Poldomasovo. In 1678 it belonged to the Krotkov family. The history of the church is connected with them. The road to Kazan passed through the village. According to legend, Ivan Fedorovich Krotkov stopped passing carts and said: “Help build the church with the labor of your hands or donate for its construction.”

In 1700, Krotkov built the stone Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in the village. It was four-throne. The main altar is in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the right one is in the name of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious, the left one is St. John Chrysostom, and on the top floor is in honor of the icon of the Mother of God “Life-Giving...
