On October 14, the Orthodox Church celebrates the great holiday - the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos - in memory of the appearance in the Blachernae Church in Constantinople of the Mother of God, extending her omophorion (head cover) over all believers.

On this day, Metropolitan Ekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Evgeniy will celebrate the Divine Liturgy in the courtyard of the Holy Trinity Seraphim-Diveevsky Convent in the city of Sredneuralsk (Sredneuralsk, Severny proezd, 15).

The service begins at 8:00.

The Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos is one of the great holidays of the Russian Orthodox Church. Its full name is the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary.

According to legend, the Mother of God appeared to those praying in the Blachernae Church in Constantinople. This happened in 910, when barbarian troops approached Constantinople. The Mother of God spread her omophorion (head cover) over the people, and this miracle became a sign of intercession and consolation.  A miraculous cover protected the city.

The storm that arose scattered the ships of the barbarians, saving the inhabitants of Constantinople from death.
