The pilgrimage tour to Dagestan dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Assumption Cathedral of Makhachkala has endedtranslated

From August 25 to 31, 2026, a group pilgrimage tour of Dagestan was held, organized by the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Dagestan "Tourist Center of the Republic of Dagestan" under the Ministry of Tourism and Folk Arts of the Republic of Dagestan together with the Pilgrimage Service of the Makhachkala Diocese "The Caucasus - Home of Peace."

The trip brought together guests from Krasnoyarsk, Kirov, Nizhny Novgorod and Samara and was dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the Assumption Cathedral in Makhachkala.

The program included not only holy places, but also vibrant cultural, architectural and natural locations: Makhachkala, Kaspiysk, Kizlyar, Khasavyurt, Izberbash, Derbent, Sulak Canyon, as well as Salta and Gunib. The tour participants took a fresh look at the republic: they were impressed not only by the natural landscapes, but also by the rich cultural and historical heritage of the region.

On August 28, the patronal feast day of the Assumption Church of Makhachkala, pilgrims prayed at the Divine Liturgy and received the Holy Mysteries of Christ.

The guests thanked the team for the thoughtful organization of the tour and noted the sincere hospitality of the residents of Dagestan - the most multinational region of Russia, where harmony between different peoples and religions has been carefully preserved for centuries.

It is good that the tour covered not only Makhachkala and the cathedral, but also Sulak Canyon and Derbent. I wonder how the pilgrims from Kirov and Samara perceived such diversity — from the church to the mountains and the sea in one week. Thanks to the organizers for combining prayer with a real trip.

It's good that you mentioned Sulak Canyon and Derbent - my friends from the pilgrimage group had the most impressions there, especially in the canyon where the wind whistles. Our Nizhny Novgorod group was also on this tour, and the Sulak Canyon really shocked everyone - you stand, and below you the river is like a thread, and the wind is such that you almost tore the scarf from your head. I especially remember how on the 28th in the Assumption Cathedral we received communion on the patronal feast day, after a whole day in the mountains. I wonder if those who came from Kirov and then at home talked about Dagestan - did they believe that such a peaceful neighborhood of peoples actually exists?
