Deputy Chairman of the VRNS Ivanov: On Intercession there is a prayer appeal to the Mother of God for the gift of childrentranslated

Orthodox believers can turn to the Most Holy Theotokos with prayers for the birth of children, the preservation of the family and the well-being of loved ones. Deputy Chairman of the World Russian People's Council, head of the Orthodox Russia movement Mikhail Ivanov told NEWS.ru about this. He explained what requests are made to the Mother of God on the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is celebrated on October 14.

According to Ivanov, believers ask the Mother of God for protection from visible and invisible enemies, peace in the family and country, and help in difficult life circumstances. Common prayer requests also include requests for health, strengthening of faith and salvation of the soul. A special place is occupied by prayers for the gift of children and family well-being.

The Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is considered one of the most revered Orthodox holidays in Rus', although it is not one of the twelve. Its origin is connected with church tradition about the events of the 10th century in Constantinople. According to this story, during the siege of the city, residents gathered for prayer in the Blachernae Church, where the robe of the Mother of God was located.
