Zambia Anglican Council publishes pastoral statement on post-election situation

The Council of Bishops of the Zambia Anglican Council released a pastoral statement on their country ’ s post-election situation.

“ Our concern is Zambia. Our concern is justice. Our concern is peace. Our concern is unity,” reads the statement. “ Our concern is the dignity and wellbeing of every Zambian, regardless of political, ethnic, or tribal affiliation.”

The statement gives thanks for relative peace.

“ Where prosecution is not warranted, alternative lawful resolutions should be pursued without unnecessary delay,” reads the statement. “ Justice delayed is justice denied. Justice must not only punish wrongdoing; justice must also protect the innocent from arbitrary treatment.”

The Zambia Anglican Council expressed particular concern about all incarcerated people, including Rt. Rev. Trevor Mwamba, retired Anglican Bishop whose health is a source of great concern.
