During the years of Patriarch Kirill’s service as Primate of the Church, 405 churches were added to Moscowtranslated

There have been 405 more churches in Moscow during the years of service as the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.
The Primate announced statistics on churches on September 15, 2026, during a visit to the Moscow City Duma.
– The total number of churches in 2009 in the Moscow diocese is 836. 2009 is the time when the Lord called me to serve in Moscow, and therefore I tend to start counting from this year. In 2025 – 1,241 churches. That is, over the years, 405 churches have been added,” said Patriarch Kirill.
His Holiness noted that “if such a thing is said somewhere in Paris or London, then they will not believe it, because churches there are being closed and repurposed.”
“And here we have churches being built and opened,” summed up the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
