I read and thought about my 14-year-old son who comes in with low grades in math. I tried to "motivate" him with money for 9 and 10, but after two months he started asking for more and getting angry when he didn't get it. Eventually I gave up and switched to "we do homework together on Sunday after lunch". I think the article is right, it pays dearly in the long run.
