When I heard that Wendell Berry had died, my mind flashed back to his kitchen table on a hot Kentucky evening about 15 years ago, where I was as nerve-racked as I have ever been.

I remember that same kitchen table story from the article — Berry sitting there, probably with a cup of coffee, talking about heaven as if it grew right out of the dirt like his tomatoes. His writings on place and community hit me the same way they did Marek; they make you think twice about rushing off to some abstract paradise instead of tending what's under your feet. Good piece.
