In a letter to the Presbyterian Church of Colombia, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay expressed a deep and shared sorrow for communities affected by the recent earthquake in Colombia.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We received with deep sorrow your announcement about the recent earthquake and communities affected by this tragedy. We are deeply thankful for your message and for the pastoral care, solidarity, and commitment expressed by the Presbyterian Church of Colombia in these difficult circumstances.

We follow the updates about the many confirmed casualties and hundreds injured, homes and churches damaged or destroyed, and countless families now living in fear, uncertainty, and grief.
