Dear Hindu sisters and brothers,
On behalf of the World Council of Churches, I extend warm greetings and every good wish to Hindu communities throughout the world on the occasion of Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
For Hindus, the lighting of diyas in homes, temples and streets signifies the victory of light over darkness, of good over evil, and of knowledge over ignorance. The ancient prayer of the Upanishads, “Lead me from darkness to light,” gives voice to this hope.
Diwali is also a time of reconciliation and generosity, gifts greatly needed in a world where so many continue to suffer from wars, conflict, poverty, climate change, and exclusion. In this spirit, the World Council of Churches remains committed to working together with Hindu communities, building on our long-standing friendship and dialogue, for a world shaped by truth, righteousness, justice and peace, where the dignity of every person and all creation are respected.
May this Diwali bring light to your homes, joy to your families and renewed hope to the world we share.
Shubh…
