Dear Rev. Hébert-Daly,

I was delighted to learn of your recent appointment as General Secretary of the United Church of Canada (UCC). On behalf of the whole global ecumenical fellowship of the World Council of Churches (WCC), I extend our congratulations and sincere hopes for your stewardship in this new and vital ministry.

I was happy last year to visit with the church to celebrate its centenary. The close ties and partnership of the UCC and the WCC go back 80 years and are ever increasing in their depth and scope. Not only was the UCC a pioneer among the United and Uniting Churches, with ecumenical DNA in its very blood. It has also worked closely in and with our central committee, Faith and Order Commission, Commission on World Mission and Evangelism, and reference groups for our programme on racism and the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity. We speak with one voice!
