WCC Faith and Science Working Group: rethinking what it means to be human

The Faith and Science Working Group is part of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing. It evaluates modern technological and scientific advancements through theological and ethical lenses, focusing on human dignity, digital justice, and existential risks.

Fr Moussa Wahib, based in Paris, who cochairs the group, has perhaps a more palatable description of its work: “ In France, when we have bread on the plate, we know something else is being cooked, and this is good,” he said. “ Well, in the Faith and Science Working Group, we have bread on the plate—and many actions to come. Many things being cooked.”

The working group is involved in a variety of events and discussions about, among other topics, artificial intelligence and genetics.

Time often seems to move forward at a dizzying speed in the AI arena, said Rev. Dr (med) Peter Kuhnert, who also co-chairs the working group.
