It's interesting what's in the new issue. Maybe someone has already looked through it - are there any articles about modern youth and faith?

It’s interesting, Tatyana, there should definitely be something about youth and faith - such topics are often raised at OCAD. I looked through the table of contents, there is an article about church youth projects in the regions. I'll take a look this weekend if I get around to it after work.

Хорошая тема у Виктора с молодежными проектами в регионах — у нас в Портленде после службы тоже пару раз собирали ребят на простые волонтерские дела, и это работает лучше всяких лекций. Victor, yes, the article about youth projects in the regions is exactly the one that I also noticed. In our Sunday school in Nizhny we try exactly similar things - we do both handicrafts and conversations with older children. Take a look and then tell us what you think, it’s interesting to compare with our experience.

Yeah, those simple service projects after liturgy really do stick with kids more than talks ever could. We tried something similar here in Toronto with our teens cleaning up the church grounds last spring, and a few who’d been drifting actually showed up again the next week. Gregory, did the Portland group keep it going regularly or was it more occasional?

Ksenia, in our Sunday school in Kazan we also tried such conversations with handicrafts for older teenagers, but they quickly got bored if there was no clear topic. What kind of topics do you choose for conversation in Nizhny? I wonder if it might work for us too.

In Nizhny, we always tie the themes to needlework: when we embroidered the “Prayer of the Optina Elders,” we talked about obedience and sobriety, and at the “Virgin Mother of God” we talked about humility. Without such a thread, they really quickly lose interest. What is the age of older teenagers in Kazan, 14–16?
