Meeting of the dean of the Zhukovsky church district with the “Young Guard” 09/02/2026translated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

On September 2, a meeting was held in which the dean of the Zhukovsky church district, the rector of the Panteleimonovsky Church, Priest Dimitry Denisov, and active volunteer children from the “Young Guard” movement in the city of Zhukovsky took part. Father Dimitry shared with the children how spiritual life is being revived in Zhukovsky and its environs: old churches are being restored, new ones are being built, parish centers are being created where believers can not only pray, but also unite for service. He spoke about how the parishes of the Zhukovsky deanery work with young people: there are Sunday schools, joint excursions, film clubs, sports and volunteer initiatives, and assistance to those in need. Particular attention was paid to the possibilities of spiritual education. The guys were keenly interested in how one can get a theological education, what programs exist, and how it fits into modern life.

Father Dimitri emphasized that faith and knowledge do not contradict each other, but complement each other: by studying theology, a person acquires not only theoretical knowledge, but also an understanding of moral principles that help in personal and public life. It’s good that Father Dimitri talked directly to the kids about Sunday schools and volunteering. In Voronezh, such meetings also help; my daughter at school just started going on excursions to the church. I wonder if in Zhukovsky there is an opportunity for high school students to enroll in correspondence theology after 11th grade?

Thank you, Valentina, for sharing about Voronezh - here in Zhukovsky, too, after such meetings, the guys start going on excursions and volunteering more often. In correspondence theology, after 11th grade it is definitely possible, Father Dimitri spoke about courses at the Moscow Theological Academy and about online programs at PSTGU, many combine them with work or study. Has your daughter already chosen which excursions she will go on?

Yes, Valentina, it’s good that Father Dimitri immediately talked about Sunday schools and helping those in need - after such conversations, our guys really get involved more actively. And by correspondence, after the 11th grade, my friend from Zhukovsky just entered the PSTGU program, she says that it is normal to combine with regular studies at the institute. Does your daughter only go on excursions in Voronezh or is she already trying out volunteering?

Yes, Ilya, it’s good that Father Dimitri immediately started talking about Sunday schools and helping those in need - this always gets the kids hooked. My eldest daughter in Voronezh no longer only helps on excursions, but also volunteers, especially when collecting food for large families. And your friend is studying by correspondence at PSTGU - I wonder what department she is in?
