The holy pillar has been restored on which the Venerable Simeon the Pillar dwelt.translated

In Syria, near the city of Aleppo, the holy pillar has been restored on which the renowned saint, the Venerable Simeon the Pillar (died 459), performed his spiritual asceticism. The restoration of the holy relic was dedicated to the feast day of the saint (September 14) and the beginning of the ecclesiastical new year, completing a week of events called "Light from Aleppo," organized by the Antiochian Orthodox Church, reports the website "Orthodoxy.ru" with reference to the website of the Antiochian Orthodox Archdiocese of North America.

The holy pillar has been restored on the grounds of the ancient monastery-cathedral of St. Simeon the Pillar (Kalat-Sim'an) – a unique monument of early Christian architecture (5th century), located about 30-40 kilometers northwest of Aleppo.
The monastery was built around the holy pillar of the Venerable Simeon. Before the construction of the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Constantinople, this was the largest Christian church in the world.
Before restoring the pillar, workers cleared and restored the ruins at the site where the Venerable Simeon the Pillar performed his asceticism in the 3rd century.
It is noted that the holy pillar had to be restored due to the damage it sustained over the centuries from earthquakes and the passage of time.
