On June 21, the clergyman of the Church of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Nadezhda, Lyubov and Sophia in Novokuznetsk held a conversation about the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God at the Scarlet Sails social rehabilitation center for minors.

Father Vyacheslav Tyunin said that the greatest shrine of Russia - the icon of the Kazan Mother of God - was found after a fire in 1579 in Kazan. According to legend, the icon was found by a 9-year-old girl, Matrona, to whom the Mother of God appeared in a dream and indicated the place of the ashes where the icon lay in the ground, retaining its original state, despite the destructive effects of fire.

The Kazan Icon is considered miraculous: through prayers in front of it, the blind were healed, and people’s headaches were relieved. The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is considered a symbol of the defense of Moscow from Polish invaders in 1612, as well as a source of inspiration for Russian troops in the Battle of Poltava in 1709 and in the Patriotic War of 1812 against Napoleon.

Despite the fact that the original icon was lost, its copies were created and distributed throughout Russia and beyond.
