On the evening of October 14, the parish of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in the city of Sharypovo gathered for a common prayer - an akathist and prayer service were performed before the image of the Mother of God “The Inexhaustible Chalice”. We prayed for those who are struggling with severe addictions, and for those who are nearby, who help and support.

The service was led by the assistant dean of the churches of the Sharypovsky district, Priest Vasily Popovsky, co-served by Priest Alexander Kochetov, rector of the church in honor of the “Derzhavnaya” Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Rodniki. Followed by special prayers for deliverance from the ailments of wine drinking and drug addiction, for the granting of sobriety, strength and spiritual peace.

After the service, Priest Vasily addressed the parishioners with a comforting sermon that salvation begins with the recognition of one’s powerlessness and turning to God. His words resonated in the hearts of many: addiction is a distorted attempt of the soul to find joy, and the Most Holy Theotokos points us to the true Source of Life.
