On September 13, on the day of the celebration of the 440th anniversary of Samara, the grand opening and consecration of an information stand dedicated to the three lost churches of the historical center of the city - the Transfiguration Church, the Kazan Cathedral and the Smolensk Church - took place on Khlebnaya Square. With the blessing of Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk, a prayer service and the ceremony of consecrating the stand were performed. The project received the archpastoral blessing and support as an undertaking aimed at preserving the memory of shrines lost in the 20th century. The information stand is installed at the address: Khlebnaya Square, 1, on the territory of the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. It introduces residents and guests of Samara to the history of three churches that were once located on Khlebnaya Square and were lost during Soviet times. The creation of the stand was preceded by lengthy research and organizational work: studying archival materials, preparing historical information, coordinating the project and raising funds.

The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the department of Russian history Pyotr Serafimovich Kabytov, associate professor of the department Pavel Alekseevich Mistryugov, senior lecturer Sergei Vladimirovich Nikolaev, representatives…

Good to see the stand up at Хлебная площадь, right by the Smolenskaya church. Nice that they put in the work with the archives and got the blessing from Metropolitan Feodosy. Reminds me how much history gets lost if we don't mark these spots.
