Russia celebrates Father's Daytranslated

October 17, 2026 · 1 min read

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Father's Day is celebrated in Russia.

This holiday is completely new, because it was established recently - by Decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin dated October 4, 2021. The day of its celebration is the third Sunday in October.

As noted in the Decree, Father’s Day was established “in order to strengthen the institution of the family and increase the importance of fatherhood in raising children.”

As Vladimir Legoida, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Foma”, previously noted: “A family for a child is a mother and father. He needs one and the other equally. And as much as motherhood reveals a woman in a woman, fatherhood is just as important and necessary for a man’s personal development.”

“Fatherhood disciplines a man; it confronts him with the need to become better even where he would not mind relaxing and being, as they say, “himself,” emphasized Vladimir Legoida.
