On the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord God and our Savior Jesus Christ, Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass celebrated the Liturgy in the lower church of the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. Concelebrating with the ruling bishop were the representative of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Archimandrite Seraphim (Shemyatovsky), the representative of the Orthodox Church in America under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus', Archpriest Daniil Andreyuk, and the secretary of the Chelyabinsk Diocese, Archpriest Igor Shestakov. Festive chants were performed by the Bishop's male choir "Axios" under the direction of regent Alexander Khakimov. During the service, an excerpt from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 17:1-9) was read, which tells how Jesus Christ, having ascended Mount Tabor together with his disciples Peter, James and John, was transformed: His face shone like the sun, His clothes became white like light. The prophets Moses and Elijah appeared and talked with Jesus.
A cloud appeared in the sky and a voice was heard: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; Listen to him."
