Old age reminds us of the value of simple things - attention, a kind word, the opportunity to be heard and feel included. International Day of Older Persons becomes another occasion to thank the older generation for the life experience, work and wisdom that they share with others.
On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, with the blessing of His Eminence Stephen, Archbishop of Gomel and Zhlobin, charitable events were held in the parishes and monasteries of the Gomel diocese in support of the older generation.
Particular attention was paid to older people who live in social boarding houses, round-the-clock departments of social service centers and nursing hospitals. Charity events were held in 15 social and medical institutions. Their wards were given the necessary household items, hygiene products and treats. Clergy, nurses and volunteers communicated with the elderly, supporting them with kind words and prayer.
