In Elista we met the icon of the appearance of Christ the Savior in 1946 and walked with it in a procession of the crosstranslated

On September 10, 2026, in the capital of the Republic of Kalmykia, the city of Elista, celebrations were held in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Savior in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in 1946.

The celebrations began early in the morning at the Kazan Cathedral, where clergy and believers from all over the region met the icon “The Appearance of Christ the Savior to those praying in the city of Elista,” organizers of the celebrations told Thomas magazine.

On the way to bring the icon to Elista, the shrine was received in every region of Kalmykia: it was delivered to the churches of the regional centers of the republic, and the day before it visited the Cathedral of Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius.

The brought icon was installed in its permanent place - in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross, which, together with the Kazan Cathedral, is part of a single church complex. It was in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in 1946 that the miracle of the Appearance of Christ the Savior to believers took place.
