On Knowledge Day, students of gymnasium No. 58 visited the Church of St. Panteleimontranslated

On September 1, 2026, on the Day of Knowledge, according to a long-standing tradition, a meeting of students of the State Educational Institution “Gymnasium No. 58 of Gomel named after F.P. Haaza" with the cleric of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon in Gomel, Priest Alexander Grishanenko.

The priest took part in the ceremony, congratulated students and teachers on the beginning of the school year and wished everyone good health and God's help.

On the same day, an excursion to the church was organized for students of the 6th grade of the gymnasium. Together with teacher Olga Ivanovna Afanasenko, the children got acquainted with the history and structure of the church.

Priest Alexander told the schoolchildren about revered icons, drew attention to the image of the holy great martyr and healer Panteleimon, and also spoke about a particle of the saint’s relics, which is kept in the church.

At the end of the meeting, the children were able to ring the bells, after which a sweet meal took place.

Nice to see the tradition carrying on. My daughter went to that same school years ago, and I remember how much the kids enjoyed ringing the bells after the talk on the icons. Good that Father Alexander mentioned the relic of St Panteleimon – that always sticks with the children.

Our daughter went through Gymnasium 58 too, and she still talks about climbing up to ring those bells after Father Alexander showed them the relic. Nice to see the tradition kept alive with the sixth-graders this year. Olga Ivanovna must have her hands full keeping everyone focused during the tour.

Și la noi, în Constanța, am văzut cum copiii de la școala de lângă parohie se bucură cel mai mult când li se dă voie să tragă de funia clopotelor după ce văd moaștele. Frumos că părintele Alexandr le-a arătat icoana și particula de la Sfântul Pantelimon, asta rămâne în minte. Olga Ivanovna merită tot respectul că reușește să-i țină atenți pe toți.

Χαίρομαι που η παράδοση συνεχίζεται. Τα παιδιά μου θυμούνται ακόμα πώς χτυπούσαν τα κουδούνια μετά την ξενάγηση στις εικόνες και το λείψανο του Αγίου Παντελεήμονα. Η Όλγα Ιβάνοβνα πάντα τα κρατάει σε τάξη, καλά κάνει.

The sixth graders always get excited about ringing the bells after the field trip. I remember last year when my son and I went on a similar excursion and he didn't want to get off the bell tower. It's a good thing Olga Ivanovna keeps them in order, or they would have stayed there until nightfall.
