Thanks for posting this. It's good to see Metropolitan Kirill leading the night Liturgy right there in the Kazan Cathedral on the Royal Martyrs' day. I always find those night services especially peaceful.

Da, noaptea aceea la Catedrala din Kazan trebuie să fi fost liniștită. Îmi aduc aminte cum și la noi, la Timișoara, slujbele de noapte pe 17 iulie ne ajută să ne rugăm mai atent pentru familia imperială. Mulțumesc că ați pus articolul.

Yes, those night Liturgies really do feel different, calmer somehow. I went for the Royal Martyrs’ feast two summers ago and the choir’s singing of the kontakion at 3 a.m. is still vivid. Nicholas, did the icons you remember include the big one of St. Seraphim near the side chapel?

I’ve never made it to the Kazan Cathedral for the night Liturgy on this feast, but I know exactly what you mean about the quiet. Our little choir here in Ottawa does the Royal Passion-Bearers service at midnight too, and the candles on the icon of the Imperial Family always seem to burn steadier when the city’s asleep. Did the choir at your cathedral sing the special “memory eternal” hymns that night?
