On August 1, 2026, on the feast of the discovery of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov, the miracle worker (1903), Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the St. Seraphim Church in Izberbash.

The night before, the archpastor celebrated an all-night vigil in the Assumption Cathedral of Makhachkala.

During the Liturgy, His Eminence was co-served by the secretary of the diocese, Priest Pavel Kalikin, the dean of the Derbent church circle, Priest Mikhail Lobov, the rector of the Church of St. Seraphim, Priest Oleg Shalnov, and the dean of the Makhachkala church district, Priest Sergius Abasov.

After reading the Gospel, the bishop addressed the flock with an archpastoral word about the prayerful feat of the Sarov wonderworker and his example for modern believers.

At the special litany, special petitions were offered. Archbishop Varlaam read a prayer for Holy Rus', performed in all churches of the Russian Orthodox Church with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill.

Father Oleg delivered the sermon before communion.

At the end of the Liturgy, a procession of the cross took place around the temple, glorification of St. Seraphim was performed and the statutory many years were proclaimed.
