On the day of remembrance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the Day of Large Family will be celebrated in the Smolensk regiontranslated

The authorities of the Smolensk region decided to celebrate on the day of remembrance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God on July 21 a regional holiday - Large Family Day.

Governor of the Smolensk region Vasily Anokhin said this at a meeting with Patriarch Kirill on September 10, 2026 in the Danilov Monastery in Moscow, the website Patriarchia.ru reports.

“We have about 8 thousand large families, and we decided to make the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God the Day of Large Families - we established such a regional holiday,” said the head of the region.

Vasily Anokhin clarified that now large families of the region will be invited to the festivities every year.

The governor clarified that the regional Large Family Day is timed to coincide with the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God at the suggestion of Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzh.
