On the day of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, a patronal feast took place in Milogradtranslated

On the day of the celebration of the appearance of the miraculous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the city of Kazan, July 21, 2026, the community of the Church of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in the village of Milograd, Rechitsa district, celebrated its patronal holiday.

The festive Divine Liturgy with the blessing of His Eminence Stephen, Archbishop of Gomel and Zhlobin, was led by the dean of the Rechitsa district, Archpriest Alexey Peshko. The clergy of the Rechitsa deanery concelebrated with his reverence.

During the Liturgy, intense prayer requests were offered for the restoration of peace, the strengthening of faith and the prosperity of the native land.

At the end of the service, the clergy and parishioners made a traditional festive religious procession around the church.

Addressing the worshipers with a word of pastoral edification, Archpriest Alexei Peshko recalled the history of the appearance of the miraculous Kazan Icon. Father Dean especially emphasized the importance of the maternal intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in the life of every Christian, congratulated the parish community on the church holiday and wished the believers strong faith, spiritual peace and the constant help of the Queen of Heaven.

Thanks, Matthew. I always pick up something new from Fr. Alexei’s talks too — that part about the Mother of God stepping in during the hardest times hits different every year. Our own little procession here in Denver felt extra quiet and steady this time around.

Our cross procession in Milograd was anything but quiet this year; the choir from Rechitsa joined and you could hear them halfway to the next village. Yeah, Fr. Alexei always brings it back to the practical stuff like a mum looking out for her kids – that lands better than the history lesson alone. Our little group here didn’t have any kids on the banners this year; the teens mostly hung back with the choir. Did the Rechitsa singers stay for the meal after?
