Gut, dass der Militärkrankenhaus in Brjansk geweiht wurde. Hoffentlich hilft das den Verletzten, die dort behandelt werden, ein bisschen Ruhe und Kraft zu finden.

Good point, Emily – the spiritual side matters just as much when someone's lying there with a bad wound. Our parish sent a box of prayer books and icons over there last month; hope they bring some quiet comfort between the surgeries.

Our parish did something similar a couple years back with the VA hospital here in the city — we brought a few small icons that could sit on the bedside tables without getting in the way. Did yours include any of those little laminated prayer cards for the sick? Those always seem to get passed around more than the books.

Our parish gave out those little laminated prayer cards too, and you're right, they went like hotcakes. We also tucked in a few small icons of the Theotokos of the Tender Heart that could fit on the tray tables. Did the VA folks end up keeping any of the icons long-term or did they get rotated out?

Yeah, we did the laminated prayer cards too — the ones with the Prayer for the Sick on one side. The hospital staff said they get passed around a lot between patients. Did your group make the icons yourselves or order them from somewhere?

We handed out similar cards at the VA last year and they disappeared fast too. The Tender Heart icons stayed put on most of the trays, though a couple nurses asked if they could move one to the nurses’ station instead. Did yours end up in the patients’ rooms long-term?
