With the blessing of Archbishop Lukian of the Annunciation and Tynda, on August 2, 2026, celebrations dedicated to the Albazin Icon of the Mother of God “The Word became Flesh” and the memory of the miraculous appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary on the Amur River in 1900 will take place at the Annunciation Cathedral.

At the end of the Liturgy, a religious procession will take place around the Annunciation Cathedral with the Albazin Icon of the Mother of God.

Historical background

The Albazin Icon of the Mother of God “The Word became flesh” is the main shrine of the Annunciation diocese and one of the most revered shrines of the Far East.

During the events of 1900, when Blagoveshchensk was subjected to artillery shelling, residents of the city turned to the Most Holy Theotokos with fervent prayer in front of the Albazin Icon. According to the testimony of contemporaries, the miraculous intercession of the Queen of Heaven was revealed over the city, saving Blagoveshchensk from even greater destruction and numerous casualties.
