On November 8, 2026, on the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, the day of remembrance of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, the Liturgy of the Holy Apostle James was celebrated by the bishop's rite in the Annunciation Greek Church in the city of Rostov-on-Don. The service was led by the Head of the Don Metropolis, Metropolitan of Rostov and Novocherkassk Mercury.
His Eminence was served by the dean of the Central District, Archpriest Alexander Pyatnitsky, the rector of the Annunciation Church, Hieromonk Gregory (Sokolov), the head of the Diocesan Department for Youth Affairs and Missionary Service, Priest Dionisy Sakovich, the dean of the Azov City District, Hieromonk Ambrose (Plakhotny), and clergy of the diocese.
At the end of the Gospel reading, the Metropolitan addressed the worshipers with an archpastoral word, in which he emphasized: “The meaning of today’s parable about the rich man and Lazarus is not only that the Lord calls us to do good and not to do evil. He talks about the high and important purpose of man - not to be indifferent to the life, sorrows and needs of other people, so as not to alienate himself from God and not incur a sad fate for his inaction.”
The hymns of the service were performed by the male choir of the Don Spiritual...
