US Archbishop ‘obliges’ Catholics to request to be excused from firing squad

Archbishop Timothy Broglio, the Archbishop for the United States Military Services, issues a statement on the planned execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, expressing sympathy for Hasan’s victims and “obliging” Catholic soldiers to request to be excused if they are assigned to the firing squad, saying the action is “contrary to the teaching of the Church."
