A 9-year-old Romanian student became the world champion in mental arithmetic: He solved 240 calculations in 10 minutestranslated

Daniel Sava, a nine-year-old student from the "Anghel Saligny" Secondary School in Focșani, Vrancea county, won the title of world champion in mental arithmetic in the WAMAS 2026 competition, held in Istanbul.
The young Romanian ranked first after solving 240 calculations in 10 minutes, without any mistakes, in front of more than 400 participants from 16 countries. The performance was noted by the mayor of Focșani, Cristi Valentin Misăilă, who highlighted the exceptional results obtained by the student through a post on his personal Facebook page.
"An extraordinary performance that speaks for itself of a brilliant mind and hundreds of hours of training, discipline and patience."
The mayor also mentioned the other results obtained by the student from Focșan in recent years: "Daniel is a national champion in blitz chess, a member of the national chess team, holder of a world record in mental arithmetic and laureate in numerous international competitions".
