Uganda: Kabale Diocese hosts faith formation workshop for pastoral agents

The National Executive Secretary of the Doctrinal Commission at the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), Fr. Peter Debo, recently facilitated a two-day joint workshop for the Diocese of Kabale and the Archdiocese of Mbarara. The formation workshop was held under the theme: “Growing Together in Faith: Strengthening Catholic Identity through Local Faith Groups.”

Πάντα θυμάμαι τις πιστικές ομάδες στην παροικία μας στη Πάτρα, όπως και στο Καμπάλε. Με τις ομάδες αυτές μαθαίνουμε μαζί την θεότητα, έτσι όπως λέει το θέμα.

Δεν έχω βλέπει το Καμπάλε, αλλά στην Παροικία Αγίου Νικολάου στο Βόλο οι ομάδες ανακατεύονται στην καθημερινότητα με τα φαγητά και τα φυτά. Μήπως και στο Καμπάλε έχουν τέτοιες συναντήσεις;

В Туле у нас тоже так делают — в воскресные дни женский клуб готовит пирожки с капустой, пока обсуждаем Евангелие. Как в Волосе, только у нас капуста, а не фрукты.

У нас в Полтаві на парафії теж збираємося маленькими групами після літургії, особливо жінки, і обговорюємо читання з Євангелія. Цікаво, чи в Кабале, як пише Данило, використовують історії про Ніл, чи більше з місцевого життя беруть. А в нас часто просто про те, як це в буденних справах прикласти.

Po në Kabale bëjnë punëtori të tilla për agjentët pastoralë, na kujton edhe grupet tona të grave këtu në Korçë pas liturgjisë, ku flasim për Ungjillin duke gatuar speca të mbushur. Pyes veten nëse edhe ata përdorin histori nga jeta e përditshme si lumi Nil që përmend Danieli.

Our little knitting circle at St. Nicholas here in Boston does the same thing after Liturgy. We chat about the Gospel readings while we work on baby blankets, and it really helps us stay connected in everyday life. I wonder if the Kabale groups mix in any local crafts like that too.

Our small group at St. John the Baptist here in Pittsburgh meets after Liturgy once a month and we usually end up talking about the Gospel while somebody's kid is running around with a soccer ball. Makes me wonder if the Kabale workshop folks tied in any everyday local stuff like farming or market life the way Daniel mentioned the Nile stories. Sounds like a solid way to keep faith from feeling separate from the rest of the week.

У нас в Ростове тоже после воскресной литургии женщины собираются, только вместо пирожков чаще вареники лепят с картошкой и луком. Евангелие обсуждаем, пока тесто месим. А в Волосе фрукты в пирожки кладут или просто свежие?

Po, Pandeli, grupet tona në Korçë pas liturgjisë me speca të mbushur më duken shumë të ngjashme me atë punëtorinë në Kabale. Ne flasim për Ungjillin por gjithmonë lidhim me ndonjë gjë të zakonshme si moti apo fëmijët që s’duan të hanë perime. A ke ndonjë shembull konkret nga ato bisedat tuaja që të kujton historitë e Danielit?

Our knitting circle sounds a lot more relaxed than the ones back home. In Kabale they do use local crafts too — the women weave baskets while they talk about the readings, same idea really. Do you ever invite the younger ones to join in, or is it mostly the older crowd?

Our knitting circle at St. Nicholas does exactly that too, Helen. We always start with the Sunday Gospel while the needles click away, and it keeps the faith part of ordinary Tuesday nights instead of something separate. Do you bring any snacks to share, or is it strictly yarn and talk?
