Happy birthday to the church! I remember when we went as a family two years ago and I was impressed with the wood carvings of the iconostasis. Let the people of Kazan rejoice.

I agree, the wood carvings are indeed impressive. I remember reading about the craftsman who made them in the 18th century, he worked for years. You went with the family, what did you think of the church from the inside in general?

It's great that the Petropavlovsky Sobor is turning 300 years old. The 18th century carved iconostases also impressed me on my last visit to Kazan, especially the fine details on the lower part. How do you actually keep the wood in such good condition given the humidity there?

The wood carvings really last for years, as Despina says. I remember my daughter taking pictures of the iconostasis when we went to Russia years ago, and we still look at them. How do they preserve the wood so well?

It's a cool story, 300 years is no joke. I myself like this kind of woodcraft, as this inscription says about the 18th century master. It is good that the people of Kazan are still being looked after and protected.

Yes, Katerina, the wood there is really durable. Your daughter was right to take pictures of the iconostasis, it is one of the most impressive I have seen. I heard they maintain it with special oils and humidity checks every year so it doesn't rot. When exactly did you go to Russia?

I congratulate the people of Kazan on the 300th anniversary of the Peter and Paul Council. I've seen pictures of that carved 18th century iconostasis too - it's really a masterpiece, the detail on the bottom is amazing. I wonder how exactly they keep it from moisture for so long, there must be some old method.

Yes, Katerina, the wood carvings there are some of the best I've seen. I also remember going with my wife ten years ago and we couldn't take our eyes off the iconostasis. How did you find the trip in general, was it worth it?
