Theology of Companionship - Foundations: Why Companionship Now?

This opening session of the webinar series introduces the theological foundations of companionship and asks why this language matters for the churches today.

9 September, 15:00 (CET) Register here In a world marked by fragmentation, violence, forced migration, ecological crisis, and deep inequalities, companionship invites churches to move beyond distant solidarity toward a more embodied practice of walking together.

The five-part series will show how the Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity appears —through a lens of companionship— as a theological orientation and an ecclesial practice.

Participants will be invited to explore companionship as a deep yet understandable journey from theological foundations to practical implementation. The series will move through five themes: foundations, method, ethics, context, and implementation.

C’est intéressant, ce passage sur le passage d’une « solidarité distante » à une pratique plus concrète de marcher ensemble. Dans notre petite paroisse, on le voit déjà un peu quand on accompagne les familles ukrainiennes arrivées il y a deux ans : on ne se contente plus d’envoyer un chèque, on partage les repas et les soucis du quotidien. J’irai peut-être au webinaire du 9 septembre pour voir ce que le professeur Enns dit des fondements bibliques, ça pourrait nous aider à mieux nommer ce qu’on vit déjà.

Yeah, that shift from "distant solidarity" to actually walking together rings true. In our parish we've been driving Ukrainian families to appointments and sharing meals after Liturgy for the last couple of years, and it's made the whole thing less about sending stuff and more about just being there week after week. Looking forward to what Prof. Enns says on the biblical side.
