The Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos on Prinkipo

The great feast of the Dormition and Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos was celebrated with particular splendor on Prinkipo, centered on the festively celebrating Cathedral Church of Panagia Eleousa.

Elder Metropolitan Dimitrios of Prinkiponisia presided over the Great Vespers on the eve of the feast, Friday, August 14th, as well as the Divine Liturgy on the day of the feast itself, Saturday, August 15th, which was celebrated with the Artoklasia (blessing of the loaves) and with the participation of a multitude of the faithful.

Following the Divine Liturgy, a festive reception was held in the ceremonial hall of the Metropolis, after which a luncheon was hosted by the Prinkipo Board of Trustees.

During the preceding days of the Dekapentavgoustos (the fortnight leading up to the feast), the Metropolitan of Prinkiponisia completed his choir-stand visitations (chorostasies) at the Holy Churches of the Islands within his eparchy, having the opportunity to communicate directly with the small but active Orthodox flock of the islands.
