Sudan church leaders strive for for unity, reconciliation, renewal—and action

In a Sudan Council of Churches Round Table held 12 September in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, church leaders called for solidarity, unity, and collective action as they move toward an assembly in November.

Ecumenical partners—including the World Council of Churches, All Africa Conference of Churches, ACT Alliance, Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and Horn of Africa, and specialized ministries—helped convene the gathering.

Discussions reflected the profound pain and suffering caused by war, while also demonstrating a strong commitment to unity, reconciliation, rebuilding, and hope.

Priorities include strengthening and revitalising the Sudan Council of Churches; institutional rebuilding and strategic planning; supporting the November assembly, developing leadership and capacity building, particularly for youth and women; and more.
