July 7, 2026 · 1 min read

A new edition of the Show "Holy Voivode Stephen the Great - Athlete of Christ" took place on Sunday in Florești, Republic of Moldova, in the presence of His Holiness Father Anthony, the elected Metropolitan of Bessarabia.

The event began with prayer and the blessing given by the Most Reverend Father Antonie and continued with speeches by Vasile Tîltu, president of Florești district, Diana Pantaz, head of the General Directorate of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (DGECTS) - Florești and Rita Colța, deputy head of DGECTS.

Valentina Cucu, professor of Romanian History and Universal History at the "Ion Creangă" Theoretical High School in Florești, presented a meditation on the life and deeds of Saint Voivode Stephen the Great.

Next, Ana-Maria Ciumac, a student in the twelfth grade, recited the poem "Imn lui Ștefan Cel Mare" by Vasile Alecsandri, then the folklore ensembles performed on stage: "Busuioc din Băhrinești" from Băhrinești (artistic director Daniel Pînzari), "Vatra satului" from Rădulenii Vechi (artistic director Mihai Catruc), "Miorița" from Cuhurestii de Sus (artistic director Silvia Armașu) and "Doina Răutului" from Gura Căinarului (artistic director Iurie...

I liked that Ana-Maria Ciumac recited Vasile Alecsandri's poem, she did well. I have also heard the "Busuioc din Băhrinești" ensemble several times, their songs remind me of the ones we sing in church after the liturgy. It's good that Metropolitan Antonie gave the decoration to the composer, it shows that they appreciate the work of ordinary people.

I really liked that Anna-Maria Tsiumak recited "Hymn of Stephen the Great" by Vasile Alexandri, it felt like she knew it by heart. And the ensemble "Busuiok din Bahrineşti" always sings beautifully, as if it were a continuation of the church songs after the liturgy. It is good that Metropolitan Antonie gave the composer a decoration, it is well deserved.

I loved that Ana-Maria Ciumac sang Vasile Alecsandri's hymn; she seemed to know it well. And the folk ensembles, especially the "Busuioc din Băhrinești", reminded me of the chants we hear after the service in the village. Good that Metropolitan Antonios honored the composer.

Yes, Ana-Maria recited it with great confidence, she seemed to have worked it. "Busuioc din Băhrinești" indeed had something of that simplicity reminiscent of post-service tropes. Do you really know who was the composer honored by Metropolitan Antonios?

Yes, Anna-Maria really sang the song with soul, it was obvious that she was not just reciting it, but feeling it. And "Busuiok din Bahrineşti" is my favorite, their voices seem to be a continuation of what we sing at church liturgy. Interestingly, which composer decorated Metropolitan Antonie, I did not know him?

Yes, Anna-Maria really felt the song, you could see it on her face. I also like "Busuiok din Bahrineşti" the most, their songs sound to me like a continuation of the troparion of St. Stephen that we sing in church. The metropolitan honored the composer Ion Cojocaru, I didn't even know him until now.
