Will Evangelicals Be Saved?translated

Reader question:

There are many people of the evangelical faith who sincerely believe in Jesus Christ and live according to the Gospel, so why then are they heretics? Will Christ really reject them at the Last Judgment?

Priest Evgeniy CHEBYKIN

Hello, Marina.

I don’t think that any sane Orthodox Christian can afford to assert that all evangelists, without exception, will necessarily be cast into fiery hell after their death.

No, we simply believe that, firstly, the Orthodox Church is the same Church that our Lord Jesus Christ founded, and, secondly, that representatives of various Protestant communities are outside the boundaries of this very Church. As for their posthumous fate, we cannot judge anything about it, because, as the holy Apostle Paul writes about this in his first letter to the Corinthians: “But God judges those who are outside” (1 Cor. 5:13).

Please try, Marina, to regularly attend church services, go to confession, partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, read wise books and do good deeds.

May the Lord help you!
