On October 4, 2026, the first Liturgy in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church was celebrated in the African state of Ghana.
The divine service at the Russian House in Accra was performed by the Chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, Priest Georgy Maximov, who visited the country with the blessing of the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa, reports the website of the Patriarchal Exarchate.
At the end of the Liturgy, a water-blessing prayer service and a funeral litany were also served. Those who wished were able to confess and partake of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, remember loved ones, and also receive holy water. The day before, Father George performed the Sacrament of Baptism for a compatriot.
The services on October 4 were attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Ghana Andrei Ordash, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Serbia to Ghana Milutin Stanojevic, as well as employees of the Russian diplomatic mission and other compatriots.
